Would like to know who lives in the Dallas area or Dallas.

Whats the cost of living, whats the houses like, traffic, night life, crime, etc etc?

What about car exhaust / inspections????

tx will be a culture shock for you

crime..like every town has its good and bad spots

i think d/fw are one of the only countys that smog, not shure how it works there, here in the panhandle,if you have lights, wipers, horn, decent tires, and an insurance card, youre pretty much done,i've never had my hood pulled in 16 years

outside of dallas leaves a lot of territory, cost of living depends on where, but i'd bet pretty good money its got to be a lot cheaper than ne

yay! dfw is great... lets get started on that list:

cost of living- dfw is a pretty large, if you want to live IN the city then it will be fairly expensive (still nothing compared to 90% of other states) if you live out in suburbia (like where I live, in bedford tx, map quest it and you will see its between dallas and ft.worth) I think its pretty much the best place to live! you can get a mansion for 300k, or a nice house for ~125k. Gas is cheaper than 95% of places most of the time as well. There are lots of new neighborhoods poping up lately, so you can pretty much take your pic from having a custom house built, or buying an older one, you wont have a problem finding either.

traffic in the cities, is just like anywhere else... just dont go out during rush hour if you dont have to. If you life in suburbia, you rarely have a problem.

night life: tons and tons of stuff to do here, lots of fast cars that go out every weekend... you just have to be careful because it seems as though cops have been cracking down on it (I dont go to or take part in street racing, id rather be at a track so I dont know from experience)

crime: Its pretty safe here :) I cant think of 1 major thing thats happened close to here in a very long time.

inspection: well my car passed inspection with flying colors!!!! (lol, if you need it I can help)

exhaust: my car is very loud... ive been followed by cops quite a few times, but never ever pulled over or ticketed for it... just dont be stupid.)

I definately recommend DFW, there are few places that I would rather live.

just out of curiosity, are you planning on moving?

Culture shock?

You're funny. I was born and raised in Los Angeles with vatos and putos.

I "might" be considering moving down there due to a job offer.

A very nice cush job offer....

What about Plano? I heard its nice, but how far away from Dallas?

plano is 15-20 miles north of dallas, you can see it in my pic I posted on post #6 if you look for it. dallas is underlined on the right, go north and you'll find plano.

Hey, MCD, I'm in the DFW area, I think out of all the places I've been it is all around a good place to live, cost of living is not bad. But Dallas was just rated
#1 in crime rate in the US (1 major crime for every 12 people, I think was the stat)....YEAY!:3d_frown: I live in a nice area in Arlington, and run out of fingers trying to count all the shit that has happened to me or someone in my family in the last 5 or so years. With a population of 6-7 mil, there is just not enough police. Traffic is a BIG bitch. Inspections are not hard to pass at all.

I will be moving to CO in march. I'm moving away for 2 main reasons (I will be moving to CO for many positives), 1- The heat, I hate hot weather and 2- way too much traffic. Dealing with road rage idiots on a daily basis grows old, a few months back I had a dude jump out of his car with a gun at me for yielding to on coming traffic at a yield sign, did not surprise me one bit........

But the economy is good here. I love big cities and this area was everything I thought it would be, but the negative things just added up over time, plus I have always wanted to live in CO.

This is just my bitter twisted opinion :icon_bigg

hehe, like I said, living in the city is sooooooo much different than living like 20 miles away from it. I dont think dallas was number one... IIRC it was number 4, what source are you getting it from?

I heard it on the radio the other day while at work, and then I was out over the weekend and overheard some friends stating the same stat, maybe we both heard the wrong stat? Now I'll have to go look it up or it will bug the crap out of me not knowing :biglaugh:

EDIT: here is this first thing that came up on google, I'm at work, I'll look more once at home:http://www.statesman.com/news/content/gen/ap/NY_Safest_Big_City.html
