Mine is a 1988 n/a. It blew a head gasket last week and I took it apart today. The block looks great but the head has a waterjacket that looks like its filled in with something. Its at the rear #6 cylinder at the end. The head gasket and block have a crecent shaped water jacket opening but on the head it looks like its filled in. My buddy said it sounds like its stop leak. Its really hard. It almost looks like solder or aluminum. I am hesitant to drill it out. When I took the head off I noticed that the #6 cylinder gasket was a little oblong and certainly where the BHG came from. It was leaking into the exhaust because there wasn't a drop of antifreeze in the oil.
Can any of you please identify what I am looking at? Here are a few pics. Thanks!!

Without welding that head's unusable sorry.

To answer the question NO there isn't a passage there it was left undrilled by the factory.

Right on. Though, I believe a guy over on Supraforums.com (//zooloo?) drilled those areas out. Don't quote me on that, though. For what it's worth, when I pulled the head off the super JDM tyte motor that I bought from ebay, it looked a bit like that. My machinist cleaned it, then welded it up, and last, he lapped the head.

It came out so well that you couldn't tell where the welds were. He had to point them out from pictures he took.

Your choices are pretty limited. 1) have it welded and hope that a good job is performed, or 2) find a new head. :(
