today i'm taking my engine apart and doing a headgasket job.mostly because the starter could'nt turn the engine.i'm very excited since the first time i did this procedure i forgot to add the r.t.v and to properly torque the head down.i tried to turn the engine by at the crank.i could'nt move it at all.which let me know that their is something wrong.I took the timing belt off the camshaft sprockets and then tried to turn the crankshaft pulley.I't turned easy and normally, which told me that maybe a valve stem is broke or bent.need some advice because i'm 200 percent sure that their is something messed up in the cylinder.thanks for anybodys input.

make sure the cams are in the right sides for starters... exhaust cam has the gear on end for cps......... then... loosen the bolts on the cams till they turn...and did you put them back on right ? they are numberd

What if you have a bad starter?

i tried to turn the engine by at the crank.i could'nt move it at all.

With your arms, or a two foot breaker bar?

I took the timing belt off the camshaft sprockets and then tried to turn the crankshaft pulley.I't turned easy and normally
,

It only takes about 40-50 lbs of turning torque to rotate a crank with pistons. Adding valvetrain makes it much harder.

which told me that maybe a valve stem is broke or bent.need some advice because i'm 200 percent sure that their is something messed up in the cylinder.thanks for anybodys input.

When that happens, you lose compression and it is usually very easy to turn over.

The caps that hold the cam in place have to go back on teh head in a particular order, and facing a particular direction. They are numbered, and have arrows on them. If you took the cams out to get to the head bolts, then maybe you didn't put them(the caps) back correctly?

You should read the cylinder head section of the TSRM carefully, at least twice. Don't skipped any steps, and pay particular attention to torque sequences for both the head bolts and cam caps.

Sometimes some people can save themselves a lot of grief, money, and time by hiring a mechanic to do the job for them. At least find out if there is an experienced member here, that lives in your area, that you could bribe to come and help you with the more technical stuff.

ohh man i saw this and wanted to add a little something....after i took one of my cams out one of the "old guys" pointed out how to i took it out was a problem i loosened the cam bolts from front to back which when u do this actually might bend the cam you should remove it from the center out...i also realized that to get the head bolts out all you have to do is turn the cams so the loops clear the bolt heads it works and it is alot easier then after havening to take the cams out and risking all that cap work..trust me i went threw it all with my build .
