I got an extra set of stock springs thinkin about cutting my existing ones
what would be an ideal cut. I want low but don't want to lose my under body on speed bumps?

Look at the TSRM, it should have stuff about putting springs on/off. If you don't know where and what the TSRM is, you haven't searched.

don't. changing out the mk3 suspension is easy enough. just save the $200 for real lowering springs. by cutting them, you completely screw up their rates.

they'll be crap, dangerous, and it's not worth it. and so many mk3 owners wonder why everyone thinks we're cheap... :nono:

Thanks for reinforcing the "MKIII owners are fucking cheapskates" stereotype.

Please, do cut your springs, fuck up your ride. And then if you wouldn't mind, rag the car out until it develops rod knock and/or a BHG and blame it entirely on the car. Then sell it on and buy a Honda. And then Maybe, just maybe you're car will fall into the hands of a owner that isn't going to lowball it's life away.

Good Luck, douchebag.

Whoa chill man, hes probably really new to this whole thing.

First like everyone is saying, DONT CUT YOUR SPRINGS. Its not going to do anything and your going to look like an idiot bouncing around with a tank. Save up, buy some good springs or save up more and get some coilovers.
Replacing springs is quiet simple. A $20 haynes manual will teach you how too do it, and I think autozone will let you rent a spring compression tool.

GL just dont cut them.

^ don't suggest a spring for anyone unless you state why. for what it's worth, i HATE my eibachs! it's a progressively wound spring, so it has a 'soft spot' before it really stiffens up, thus causing unpredictability in handling/cornering.

i highly suggest doing lots of research on springs before buying. (and NOT cutting;))

Lol, all of us ARE ricers. The term "ricer" originates with Harley guys ragging on Honda(rice-burners) riders. The term is generic for someone who rides/mods a vehicle made in Japan.
So if you ride/mod/drive a Japanese import, guess what... you're a ricer!

Oh yeah: Don't cut the springs. My parts car had exactly one coil cut off, and was loose(could move it up and down around 1/2") on the strut with the suspension fully extended.

It may not make you a ricer but it does make you a cheap ass, which isn't any better but very common for MK3 owners.

Lowering springs aren't even expensive. It's not like you have to buy 1500 dollar coilovers to lower the car.

Yeah, if you just want a lowered look without much performance, go for the common lowering springs that people buy :p

Eibachs, RSR, etc. By the way, CKanderson gives out really good deals on lowering springs, so go to him :p

I have personally driven a car with cut spring's. Not only is it dangerous but your ride will be quite uncomfortable. As posted before "I" would search the forums to find a set of springs based on what others have said. Cutting springs and sometime lowering springs can reduce the life of suspension parts if not properly aligned afterwords. Yes you can rent a spring compressor, but They are almost as dangerous as cutting the springs. lol A shop should have a wall mounted Hydraulic compressor and Can do it for you for a small fee.
