Custom Catback Magnaflow need advise / suggestions.

Well my stock cat back is rusted out bad. The muffler, pipe and resonator all look like swiss cheese and are starting to rattle. Money is tight and I cannot afford a 3" elbow or 3" downpipe at this time. I want the exhaust to be quiet with minimal highway drone under normal acceleration or cruise. My car is a 89 turbo stock (7mgte). My local muffler shop uses magnaflow and flowmaster products so here is what I plan to do.

  1. Factory stock downpipe.
  2. 3" catback pipes with a magnaflow muffler #12198 (single 3" in / dual 2.5" out) and a magnaflow resonator.
  3. No Catalytic, non wanted, no smog inspections in Florida.

For now in place of the Cat I was going to replace it with a test pipe that mates up to the new 3" catback and to the 2.5" stock downpipe. This would allow me to upgrade to a 3" downpipe and mate it up to the 3" catback in the future. It would also give me the option to put a catalytic back in if ever needed.

Need your suggestions and advice. Newb mind at work here. Thanks

3-2.5" dual tip? Turbo? I would recomend magnaflow's 3" straight through to a 4" single tip. Beautifully polished muffler, excellent performance, and not loud, just deep and rumbly. Stock downpipe is ok, I would recomend hollowing it out for massive performance gain on a budget... and don't worry about a resonator. Waste of time, money, and the incredible head-turning sound of your 7m.

If money is that tight I would suggest getting out of a supra.

I have a 3" turbo-back exhaust, BIC downpipe, cat, and single Magnaflow muffler and it is fairly loud. I don't mind it at all, but it does boom and drone inside the cabin at cruising speeds and its most definitely loud outside the car!

Add a long resinator, Removing the cat will definitely louden it up.

Really, I did not know that the cats muffled the sound
