Exactly, it's why a lot of modern turbos have ported housings to stop the surge.

Actually

"Modern" turbo have that anti-surge housing because the in thing to do is buy a huge turbo with a TEENY TINY A/R which will make the turbo a surgemonster. The correct turbo with the correct A/R should exhibit ZERO surge.

IMHO any TURBO IS a wear item and treated as such.

There fixed.

Any turbo is a wear item. Usually measured in hours. 10-1000 hours.

10 hours worth of racing on a WRC car with ALS banging the hell out of the turbo.

1000 hours for street driving.

btw the hours are of the turbo actually WORKING (creating flow) not just in the exhaust stream.

See, but that's the point, you're doing that with the upgraded CT's with a large wheel in a small A/R. The ported housing allows the best of both worlds in many cases it seems...

Agreed, turbos are wear items, but a stock CT (or a good aftermarket turbo) will generally last damn near as long as the motor itself, the upgraded CT's have a much shorter life.

60-1 trim is a 59 trim IIRC as well (not aimed at you figgies as you would already know this), the 60 trim is actually larger last I knew.

Ah, yeah, found the measurements for the wheels, maybe I'm thinking of a larger wheel... I know there is that monster one on ebay.
