Is it possible to run the Ct20a's on the 1JZ? I'm currently researching a 1JZ swap into my MKIII, for some odd reason I'm obssessed with using twin's vs. going to a single turbo for power. My long term goal is dependable low 400rwhp range.

CT26's? Wouldnt they be too big? The Aristo's are the US spec correct?

yup, CT20a's are also ceramic wheel

but you would have to make the y-pipe and wastegate the 2nd turbo like mentioned already

or you could weld the wastegate on the 1st turbo shut and run a single external.

Sounds like work, does it even seem like a worthy conversion to anyone? Or should I look into an alternative TT, maybe even single turbo setup to reach the power band I desire?

A friend of mine did this, he used two front turbo's of a jdm 2jz to work around the wastegate problem. They are also 3 bolt flanges and fit with little alteration. However you do need a custom Y-pipe and the other downside is the ceramic impellors of the turbo's, they don't like high boost.

My friend also has a 1.5jz and he made 345whp @ 14psi it has worked for over three years now and looks to be quite foolproof.
But I doubt it will be possible to get 400whp reliable from a 2.5ltr, I think it will put too much stress on the turbo's as you need to up the boost to about 18-20psi to get to that power level and eventually they will break up.

If all you want is 400rwhp, then go with a gt35.... I have it on my 240sx with a 1j and it comes on very quick and the top end it very nice too.

Got a friend with a GT35R in his Evo, stroked to 2.3 dyno'd 422awhp(19psi). Kinda hoping to kick his @ss on a highway pull(one day). His car lags through first gear and somewhat in second, even with the stroker, it's still a four banger. The GT35R crossed my mind because I am curious to see how it responds on a straight 6. I'm not a fan of lag, hence my desire to tune the CT20's. The GT35R would proove to be more reliable though in the long run of things.

I dont think you'd need to do anything custom with the rear turbo.. Iirc the front and rear wastegates have the same spring, so its fine

The rear turbo doesn't have a wastegate. Because the two manifolds are connected together, the 2nd turbo can also be controlled via the wastegate on the first turbo.

What the second turbo has on it, looks like a wastegate, but it's the pre-spool valve. It opens allowing a little exhaust to flow out, spinning the turbo up before the actual large exhaust valve opens.

well, there was a reason he used two fronts, maybe it was bolt pattern, I don't recall, it is about 4 years ago now

his username is youp, both here as on sf, if you search on that you will find the thread

yep me..

We used two 2jz front turbos (turbine), as they both have wastegates (the rear turbo has a spoolup port, which can be converted to a wastegate by some drilling and installing a bushing).

for the compressor side we used the normal front and back

The custom Y pipe is a lot of work.

in the turbo are some pins for allignment, just remove them and you can turn both sides of the turbo to your liking...

I just told you why he would have used two fronts :)

I guess we sort of posted those at the same time, and you missed mine,
