CT-26 acting funny...

My CT26 smokes randomly, like it will run fine on start up and not smoke. But after 10 mins of driving it'll smoke like a firecracker.

Shut it off, wait 5 mins; turn it back on and no smoke. :icon_mad: Drive it around for another 5-10 mins and it smokes again. Sometimes it doesn't smoke for 30 mins!

If the seals were truely bad, wouldn't it smoke all the time?

Maybe my oil return line is bad?

Here is how my oil return line looks like. The stainless line I bought was too long and I didn't want to cut it so it curves down a little and then back up to the oil pan.

I'm thinking after driving the oil gets backed up where the return line curves and when I let it sit for 5 mins; that allows the oil to drain back into the oil pan. Dunno, what do you guys think?

Note: ct26 is being used on a 5sfe engine.

there probably isn't that much vaccuum on the return line so yeah, it's probably gettin backed up. i'd just buy a better sized line and see what happens.

Just support teh return line (tie it to something etc) so the line sits above the return point at the sump. It relies on gravity.

I was hoping the oil would push itself out, but I'm guessing this is my problem here.

i have the same problem..is the smoke coming from the muffler? or inside the engine bay..cause mines come from the muffler..but i think its my seals as well

That oil return line needs to be fixed. Make it straight down, with no kinks or hard bends.

One last noob question before I go jack up the car and fix the oil return line. (i'm an optimist)

I was a destructive mood today, so I took the MR2 (5sfe engine with a the ct26 turbo) out for a drive today. It started smoking after a few minutes of idling (I haven't touched it in a month though), but I didn't care. :icon_evil

I drove it hard for about 1 minute and it completely stopped smoking, so I was happy again. I drove it for 10 more minutes with no smoke and then drove home. Just right as I drove my car up the driveway and put the e-brake on it started smoking really bad. :3d_frown:

This is weird, but I'll go fix the return line now. I don't think it'll fix my smokey turbo, but worth a try before I send it in for a rebuild.
