Cressida 7m-Ge Question

So i wanted to find a junk 7m to build into a 7mge-t with no down time.I found a late 80's Cressida at a local junkyard.But it doesnt look like my 7m-ge in my supra.I was expecting the 7m-ge tag on the cam cover but it isnt there.Is this a 7m?

*It had a DOHC "emblem" on the front where the 7mge should had been..and said somthing about 2.8 on the emissions control panel.

That looks like a 5m-ge from an earlier cressida. Probably need one from 86 or 87+.

umm u can get them imported with low miles from J spec motors or there are importers on ebay, $350-500

It will say 7m-ge on the timing belt cover dude just like on the supras.

Thats what i thought too, I will check out ebay tho.

just curious ..What kind of power does a 5m make?..can you make it a 3.0? I plan on going with better/forged internals anyways.

Yeah thays a 5mge motor, probably not worth getting. If your planning on turbocharging it, keep in mind many mkii guys swap to the 7mgte. I'm sure they have a reason.

The 5mge also only has 2 valves per cylinder instead of the 7m's 4. It also puts out less HP then the 7m. I have an 83 Cressida with a 5mge in it. It's ok for that car but it is alot loghter than the Supra.

The heads are dramatically different. So it should be easy to tell even if there isnt a label on the timing cover.
