Shit sucks dude. Just let them know your car's worth more than that. Find similar cars in similar condition for lots of money. They'll try to give you blue book value (if that). Demand market value, which is what the car actually sells for.

My 92 got hit and estimates to repair is $5000+. The problem with my accident (dude hit gas instead of brakes and landed on top of my hood) is my 2JZ started acting up. We're currently trying to figure out what the issue is so they can add the value of the engine to my total. Also I intend to buy back the car, remove engine /tranny/small tidbits and sell the shell.

Don't get too attatched, as you may have to give the car up, but atleast you can move onto another project, or a "better" (subjective) Supra.

Whether or not it's totaled is usually up to how hard the adjuster thinks he can screw you. They will play the "It's not worth anything because it's so old" deal. I had a progressive agent tell me my car was only worth 500 dollars. Don't settle for anything less than you deserve.
This is probably the best advice in the thread so far.

Sorry to hear about your accident, too many "operators" on the road rather than "drivers". Then again, if they were a Driver, they probably wouldn't be in a Kia. :nono:

My only experience with accidents on our cars, is that little things add up quickly. A guy backed into my car at a Village Inn once, took out the driver side mirror, and put a small dent in the driver side door. Total replacement cost? Somewhere around $1500. Similar thing happened about a month later, except this other guy hit my rear mud guard (the bit at the back of the stock side skirts), and dented the panel above it just a bit IIRC, total repair cost was also around $1500. When it is only one panel, things aren't usually so bad, it is when things start affecting more than one panel that repair costs get expensive to do it right...

ohh noo Connor :O gosh I never expected this to happen to you. Hopefully they can fix it in one peace. If it makes you feel any better check out mine.

First crash was from the car getting stolen and found it later in the evening like that :( (oh yea don't mind the smoke, it was taken while brother was having a ciggarette)
Just bought myself a fender and bumper from a part out and fixed it myself

never accept the first offer

demand to see the insurance adjusters' "comparables" - I had an adjuster get an "average value" from 1 internet example that sold in 4 hours due to sweet pricing and an owner over 250lbs that didn't fit in his car
^I explained the definition of average to him at a later date

prepare your own comparables -- similar vehicles/condition/milage etc

be prepared to have a resolution take a while 4-8 weeks depending on how determined you are to get a fair evaluation

evaluate finding your own parts (perhaps here) and compare that to the insurance adjusters repair quote...

If totaled, and you decide to buy it back and swap over your stuff, there is a silver lining. Once finished, you can probably part out what is left of the 2 cars and make back the money you spent to get it back and buy the new shell. Your car appears to have a huge amount of good left in it! You keep the best of everything, and sell off anything that is still good. Find a cheap BHG complete car, and you'll have engine harness, ECU, LSD, moldings, and many many more sellable parts when you're done

Nothing wrong with something like that as a second car, but I find that most people buying them really couldn't care less about driving. A car is a tool to most people to get from point A to point B.

Then again, this does not apply to all people with cars like this, "drivers" treat each car like it is fun. ;)

The car is totaled.
At first the insurance company offered me $2450.00 for the car then we sent over my receipts and the bumped it up to $5750.00
I can buy the car back for 1000.00 and still get a check for 4750.00 but a portion of the front frame is crumpled and requires a new piece to be welded in. This process requires removal of the engine in order to weld in this piece also I would have to locate this piece. I want to keep this car as it is my baby but its time to move on.
So I will be taking the 5750.00 to put towards a new car but sadly this will be me stepping out of the Supra game for a while. I will always love these cars and will defiantly own one again someday. It is just not in the cards for me at this time. I appreciate all of you who have helped me out through the few years I have been on here. Hopefully talk to you guys again soon.

i think it would be worth 1000 to buy it back and part it out and make more that way. im sure you would make more then 1000 in parting out

I'm sorry to hear about what happened. I always liked to see the pictures of your Supra in your signature. I also think it would be worth it to buy the car back and save the good parts, but it is your decision.

What insurance company do you have? I'd buy it back but if you dont want the part out headache no shame in taking the offer i'd try to atleast get more for it if you can. But its all your choice in the end
