the picture is missleading.. see how the intake lobe is pointing at 12:30 ? it should be pointing to 11:30 and exhaust should be pointing at 12:30....

I think what they are saying is seeing as there are 2 TDC if you turn it over till the intake lobe is pointing in the UPWARDS direction and you put crank at 0 it will be at the compresion stroke TDC and then you can set dist to #1...

Well, I wouldn't let go of the valve timing thing until I resolved it because I dislike mysteries. Once that happens set all the marks up and install the dizzy so that after it goes in the rotor is pointing at number one on the cap. Then check for spark. Shoot a good dose of starting fluid or carb cleaner into the brake booster port on the manifold, wait one minute for it to vaporize, then crank. If it starts you can go from there and focus on fuel.

Checked the dizzy again. The rotor is about an inch or maybe two to the left of 1. It's right in between #4 and #1. Thoughts?

With the cam gears and the crank on the index, the rotor should be pointing at the #1 wire. Ignore the dizzy gear index and turn the gear to make this happen when it slides in. FYI - the helical gear on the dizzy will turn as it is inserted.

Redacted per Title 18 USC Section 798
Or just turn the distributor until the rotor is *on* the number one cap contact. You can use an ohmmeter to do that.

The entire point of the dizzy/CPS marks is only because of the bracket. If the wires were long enough you could install it any way you wanted and still time it. Either way the rotor has to be on number one.

BTW - Lose the zip tie around your spark plug wires and use proper wire seperator clips all the way to the rear cylinders.
Make sure your battery is fully charged too ;)

Yeah the zipties is already off and proper wire clips were used all the way to the rear cylinders. Yay I did something right for once! Battery did need a jump but I am positive that was not why it didnt start. I think honestly it was the dizzy being misaligned... haha. Figures it was something simple. Thanks man!
