Currently you have no ventilation.

Reinstall the stock setup then we'll talk.

You may have to explain why I have no ventilation. I have the stock setup installed now. Seems like the crankcase pressure would escape into the intake duct. Is this correct?

If detonation control were the #1 reason for the EGR system don't you think Toyota would have made it standard for vehicles shipping to places other than North America as well?

Sure, it's an excellent added bonus, but it's only there because the US gov't requires it per emissions regulations.

Misinformation central.

OP, the statement that your PCV system is blocked was an assumption which shouldn't have been made. It is a definite possibility, so is excessive blow by and also the possibility that your builder just isn't familiar with these engines enough and may be misinterpreting the data he's collecting.

Nope!

Why? Simple really, Fuel and particularly octane also since they did not have the emmisions requirement we did at that point. Tune richer. Problem solved.

And quite frankly you are going down an avenue that you will NOT win. ;) Trust me on that one ;)

w/e, I think that's inaccurate. No biggie, I'll look into it.

EDIT:

Actually, you said it right there yourself... #1 reason = emissions. First and foremost it's an emissions device. Yes, by controlling it better you can reduce temps enough to advance timing even further and even further reduce emissions, BUT when the system was introduced that wasn't as big of a factor as they couldn't control it as accurately or readily. Emissions reduction though temperature reduction is the #1 reason. Yes, detonation control allows us to take it further, no argument... that's just not the primary reason for it being in the car.

detonation control infact is. And notice that the ONLY time it is used is during the low load/cruising portion of the map. Where under someone that won't know would assume that at a low load point, detonation would be minimum to none exitant when infact low load cruise is the place where detonation will likely occur.

Why do you think past 1988, Toyota ADDED the EGR system to the 1jz-GE and 1jz-gte ;) Again, it wasn't emissions. BHG warranty repair even when the car was tuned for no EGR with the "Japan" Spec'd ECU.

Figgie, which came first the chicken or the egg? This is stupid, we both agree to the effects the system has. Why it was installed in the first place is academic. If you want to argue further over the matter PM me, let's not derail this guys thread any further.

Correct.

But check for restrictions.

Give the pipe a "chem" dump.

I misread. I thought you capped off the vent ports on the cam cover.

We need more info. For all we know it could be bad valve seals and bad guides.

Anyway, get pictures of your setup and we'll go from there to see what's wrong with your setup (if anything).

Ok there is a lot of people pulling out their 2 cents, and no one is on the same page.

What are your problems?

Are you blowing out smoke through your exhaust?

Are you blowing out your dipstick?

Do you have oil leaks? If so Where?

If you have a stock system then you should be just fine with the mods that you have. I have a very basic system, I'll take a pic of it tomorrow.

if you are not having any of these issues you probably don't have a problem and you may need a new engine builder.

It only took 6 pages of thread to get to the point where we'll actually see a picture, but then Id be counting chicks before they hatch.

Sometimes I wish the Mods would require a pic or two before someone asks the board to diagnose their problems. Which I know would be common sense if you are posting questions to have your issue fixed, but as they say common sense is anything but common:1zhelp:
