You should get a couple more quotes. you should be able to find it a little cheaper. I just wanted to point out that it's not an easy, in and out type of job. Labor is probably a little high, depending on the average hourly shop rate in your area. You should be able to get a reconditioned crank kit for 1/2 or a little more than the dealer price. Should come with new bearings as well, of the correct size. SO yeah, some fat could be cut out of that 2200, but I wouldn't expect less than $1500 without having some short cuts(short cuts are bad).

Number 1 rule of owning a supra, learn how to do everything yourself. If your paying someone else to do it 60 - 80% of the cost is labour.

Buy a beater for $800, spend the rest on a new engine setup (rebuild kit), and when you're done, sell the beater and buy a nice exhaustintake combo or something.

^ Keep beater for future problems like this. :icon_bigg

I've always thought pulling the engine was a pretty easy job. Last one Rumptis and I did took us like 2 hours, including going inside for lunch, start to engine on the stand. But we d it the smart way... *cough*engineandtransatthesametime*cough*

+1 to the buy another car, $2200 will buy you a damn nice honda.

My 89 n/a is my beater, just it has a bhg which im working on at the moment. I apprciate the responses. Funny thing though when you look at some use cars. You might get a good price, then they say the tranny does not work. Which drives u to fix what u have. At least u know who owns it.
Not blaming the my supras for the failures, the the n/a i put a coolant hose from was from auto advance. Lasted 2 months then split. The turbo could have been a problem due to the last person working on the car. Not applying enough torque on the crank pully bolt. life goes on, just me with out cars. lol
