I have searched and read every thread that was posted about the crank bolt and the bitch that it can be. I decided to thread some rope down the #1 plug hole to prevent the pulley from turning, however I can not get enough force to break that bolt loose, and I am a big guy. It was put on with air tools so I am curious if I just need alot more power. I am also using a 18 inch breaker bar, do I need a larger one? Also had tried bumping it with the starter before with no luck. Any help is appreciated.

I think its torqued at something like 195ft/lbs. I had someone in the car holding the brakes with the car in gear and one hell of a breaker bar. You should be able to get it loose with a good impact wrench.

I've never had the starter bump fail me. If that's not working for you, you're pretty much FUBAR, the starter puts out WAY more torque than an impact gun.

That what I did, one quick turn of the key (cps disconnected) and it broke loose. I was surprised how easy it worked.

I couldn't get a 550 ft/lb impact gun to take it off, even when it was torched!

I ended up having to wrap a chain around the engine stand, bolt it to 3-4 flywheel bolts (snapped about 2 trying this), put a large block of wood standing up under the crank shaft (i was putting so much torque on it, it wanted to bend down alot and i thought i was gonna bend or break the engine stand). I also ratchet-strapped it to a cherry picker for extra support, it was a huge bitch to take off!
