Oh the other hand, buying someone else's *finished* project is a great way to save money. You'll never get your money back out of a modded car... so if you're buying instead of selling, you can get some really steep discounts if you're lucky and have some coin to spend.

You bet! And if it was your car, I wouldn't hesitate. Same for many other people's cars on this forum, and some of my local friend's cars. Some people (you can tell) know how to do it right.

The big question is... Would you rather buy a complete stranger's "finished" car (And let's say for the sake of argument, by *finished*, we're talking BPU stock-block 7MGTE), or a bone stock receipts in hand unmolested rust free car of equal mileage?

There is no right or wrong answer, but it's an insight to how you tick... Do you like the project, or the finished goods? Will seeing somebody's backyard mechanic fix bother you infinitely more than your own backyard mechanic fix? <-- I'm guilty of this! Or will you always wonder what he/she torqued the head bolts to, or if they really polished to the required 50RA?

I can tell you're speaking from experience. :)

LOL, mine was mostly stock, but back before I learned how to do my own work I had a shop do a clutch job...yep, I've had to fix their fuckups quite a few times...

I've had better luck with private citizens who wrench than shops. And for the most part, I can tell when a car is a hack job - look at the wiring, hose clamps, and check the nuts and bolts under the hood for signs that they've been rounded off. If a car passes those three tests, chances are it's good.

Every once in a while a Supra add is just so spectacular that it deserves recognition... Like a bone stock 145,000 mile 89 turbo with an asking price of $9,200. :aigo:

Ahh, but it's got that sexy burgundy interior...

I didn't know could get a targa n/a.

The turbo option, and that is what it is, came on the Supra in 1987 after it debuted in Jan of 1986 with a sport roof and TEMS as an option. As well as a LSD.

I think ABS became standard in 1990, and the SRS airbag in 1991.

In 89, ABS and Automatic still an option and TEMS only came if you ordered the Sport Package. LSD was standard on turbo models and included with the Sport Package on N/A's.
