cracked dash

Most vinyl repairs that I have attempted turn out poorly. That does not mean it can't be done. More than likely if you want it to look nearly as good as new, you will need to repaint the dash after repairing it.

This presents the problem of matching paint. Replacing the dash is usually the way to go, however that is a bear of a job.

Can you say, Dash Cover ??

paint the dash????? its unfortunate that this happens but the only real way to cure this is to strip it and recover it with some real leather and not pleather and condition it regularly.

The only dash cover I'd use would be a molded to fit FG or CF plate. It would look 1000x better than a carpeted dash... had that in an old Escort we owned... just killed me.

Have you done this? I'd like to see pics!

A friend of mine replaced the dash on my car, and he had experience doing the job before (multiple times). Even with his exp, it was still a 2-3 hour job. My suggestion is find a replacement dash, and get someone who knows what they're doing to replace it for you. It is DEFINITELY a lot of work.

no i havent as my dash has no cracks thank fully. but if my dash did and i had the money and felt like pulling the dash( have before and its a utter pain) i would.

but i would prefer a actual leather dash as opposed to a cf or fg dash.

I ripped my replacement dash out of a supra in a pick'n'pull junkyard in about a hour, but that was cutting wires and the seats, console, stereo, stereo surround, and glove box where already gone.

Still haven't gathered enough effort to attempt to put it in.

took me about 3 hours+ to remove a dash the 1st time(only time and was about 17-18 yrs old) pulling on it going f@#$ theirs still more bolts/nuts to remove on my car. junkyard cars a diff as you only care about the parts your pulling(for most parts[like the dash]). pulling parts on a engine or something where ripping it apart only breaks is a diff story at the junkyard as you want to keep the parts your pulling in good condition, you should also try to keep as many parts intact for other people out there looking for parts.

I'll agree with you there, it is a pain in the ass to remove and paint the dash especially if its your first time with nobody that has had any previous experience. I repainted my whole interior last february but it was well worth it. anybody want pics? :icon_bigg

+1

I can pull a dash in about 15-20 minutes. The only thing hard about it is knowing which bolts to take out. The first time I pulled one, I thought I had to remove every bolt I could see.

I posted some pictures in a thread within about the last month of the bolts you need to pull to get it out. Someday real soon, I will try to find the time to post an article on it and post those pics again.
