ok car is getting fuel and spark but doesn't stay running it just backfires a whole lot. Now I think I remeber Hearing that the CPS has to be installed a certain way? after rebuilding my motor I just slid it into the head and plugged it in.

I know it is a little hard to see, but if you look at the little shaft between the two gears on the cps, you will see a little hole (it can be seen in the picture). You need to line that little hole up with the notch on the larger gear and then slide the CPS in. It may take a few tries to get it right, it did for me.

Edit: here you go, the second picture.

It's no different than a distributer. The reluctor for cylinder number one has to be triggered when that cylinder is near TDC on the compression stroke.

Think about it this way: The only reason you have to line up the notch and dot is to make the bolt hole fall within the slot. If you made the wiring long enough to spin the thing 360 degrees you could just stick it in. Timing would still have to be set though, and it'd have to be clamped somehow.

What confuses you? Ill explain to the best of my ability.

i don't have any right now as im not near the car as im in the city and its back in my small home town. I will be going home on friday though and see whats up. I might have some question then lol.

Also i can't set the timing as it says to get the engine up to operating tempertaure and I put coolant in to do so but it started leaking out the water pump. So gasket must be shitty so i have to install a new one first.

I wonder if all this running of the engine is going to hurt the break in process :(

I followed the "dot and grove" method.
But when I time the car at ten degrees, the C.P.S. is at the maxium clockwise position it would nice to rotate the gear so that, when I'm at ten degrees it's not maxed out at the clockwise position, another words, I turn the C.P.S. full clock and it won't go anymore, but it's at ten degrees. Which way do I turn it so I get more latitude so that it's not at it's end of it's travel, turn the gear or turn the housing?
