ok guys hopefully some1 has connquered this delema im in:

ok im currently trying to aline my cps and i set the rotor to the left so when i slide the cps in it clicks over to the mark on the right (like its supossed to) but when i do (w/ the cams str8 up) the mark on the rotor ends up to the right of the mark on the cps.

weird thing is when the cams not str8 up (ive put it invarious random spots) and i slide the cps in it clicks over where its supossed to be.

heres pics:

this pic is the cps when before i insert it with cams str8 up.

this pic is of the cps before inserting it with cam in random spot notice the marks are in the same spot in both "before insert" pics

this pic is of cps marks after inserting cps with cam in random spot its lined right up..

I don't see any pics, but it could be just my computer....I had the same problem off of a fresh rebuild. Lined it up and fixed one other problem and it fired right up. I'll dig around and see if I can find a pic of where it should be aligned.

yea in the pic is how the cps is when i insert it with cams not str8 up. but when i insert the cps (how its supossed to with rotor mark to the left of the cps mark) the little red line on the rotor part ends up to the right of the red mark on the cps when the cams are str8 up.

Fixed your image url's.

If your cams are aligned correctly, try rotating the CPS more before installing it again

You need to insert the CPS with it not lined up in the first pic...that is the final result. You need to have it misaligned so that it will turn to the match marks when the helical gears mesh.

ok your saying i have it backwards? lol im suposed to line the cps marks (like in pic 4) then insert it so the lines are like the lines in my pics 1, and 3?
It's been awhile but if I remember correctly, the mark on the moving/rotor needs to be counter-clockwise further away from the stationary mark/tab. When you insert the CPS, the rotor will turn clockwise. You have to play around with finding the spot that turns it into alignment after installing it. Don't move the camshaft itself once it's lined up with the timing cover notch mark.

note: i do have the marks mis alined but when the gears mesh (with cams str8 up) it moves to the right like pic 2 of mine. when cam is not str8 up and i insert the cps (with marks misalined) it meshes perfect with marks lined up like pic 4 of mine.

hornet i did i read it before thats y im asking whats wrong im doing what in says i put the cps gears to the left then insert it and instead of popping over to the line how it supossed to it popps over to the right of where it supoosed to be. like in pic 2 that kneedragger fixed for me. but when i dont have cam lined up it popps over to the line like is supossed to.
thats whats confusing me

You're starting to confuse me. You have both timing gears pointing up to the notches in the black timing rear cover right? If so, don't move the gears/crankshaft as they're now used as reference to help you install the CPS. Turn the CPS rotor little by little to the left (counter-clockwise) with trial and error to get it to end up as close as possible to the match marks when installed. After that you can rotate it while installed to fine tune it with a timing light.

yes i had the cam gears lined up with the black timing cover. and i dont have a timing light. but what i just did was inserted the cps and moved the cps to were the hole for the size 12mm bolt is at the bottom of notch thing, the ex. cam is 1 tooth off from str8 up and the gears on the cps are lined up. will that be ok for now until i can get a timing light??

Both cams pointing straight up, crank pully at 0

Line up the cps bolt hole and the notch to the left of the mark, when you push the last inch it should rotate right of the mark. Tighten bolt and start the engine, if you dont have a light you can adjust the cps by ear for now but just drive the car easy.
