Couple of ?'s

Ok i got the motor in and it runs ok but i have a problem. Its an 86.5 na.
1. The radiator gauge does not work.
2. When under load the motor will drop to 1200 rpm the go up to about2200-2500 rpm.
3. And how many gallons of coolant does the car usually take?

theres a one wire sensor in the t-stat housing... its probably broken or not connected.

Check the cable that runs from the exhaust side of the motor up to the throttle body to make sure it is connected if you have an auto. Mine did the same thing you are talking about with revving when it should idle. The cable was off of its mount and moving with the throttle, not pulling in and out like it should. I don't know if NA cars have it though as the throttle body is in a different place.

If its not that check your idle speed controller. If not that take some starter fluid and spray around the joints in you intake manifold, if it revs you have a leak.
