I want to warn any of you around Springfield, MO and thinking about using MAACO auto shop. I went out on a limb after reading good AND bad reviews of the place, and I dropped my car off on Wednesday morning last week for paint. Told the Shopmaster NOT to paint my mouldings or weatherstripping, tape it off up to the mouldings and I will take care of those. He agrees, said it would be done in 3 business days, long story short - it wasn't done until last Thursday morning. Here are some shots below. They painted EVERYTHING!!! and these pics aren't of the worst either, bubbles, overspray, didn't paint my headlight trim, it goes on and on....... I will post another pic here in a second of the estimate for replacing all of the mouldings and weatherstrip from Toyota themselves.

Here's the a shot of the final estimate price for replacing mouldings and trim. I picked the car up Thursday and DID NOT pay for it, I walked around the car with the Shopmaster and pointed out everything that was horribly wrong with this job. He says bring it back in Tuesday of next week and we'll get that back in and fix all of that and redo the mouldings in flat black. I called MAACO today, told the Shopmaster of the damages and mentioned the estimate, and cordially told him he needed to fix my car. He says, well, we'll have our insurance people look at it. I just don't know where to go with this from here. Any opinions would be grateful. Thanks so much guys.

i dunno man with maaco you gotta prep everything yourself, also make sure that the maaco cares about what they are doing, alot of shops could care less. my car is maaco and looks great for what i paid

nothing is wrong with painting them, but HE did NOT want them done... hegave specific instructions, they didnt follow, maaco should pay up for the mistake. well thats how i feel. but i dont see how fixing the moulding would cost that much....

Prepare to take legal action, but try and work it out with MAACO first.

wow, for that price it seems to me you could and should have gotten a better outcome or gone to a better shop. Ive heard sooo many horror stories about macco. The only way I would have them paint a car is if its one I just didnt care about and only wanted one the same color overall. Not only does it look bad now, Macco paint jobs are notorious for looking like crap in only a few short years. But ok, too late to worry about that right now.
The first action to take is to let them try to make it right. WRITE down all the problem areas you see and want fixed. Then make an appointment with the shop foreman and discuss everything over the car. Using the written out list of things you want fixed, have the shop foreman Initial EVERY single line item of what you want done, and sign the bottom of the sheet. If he agrees to this let them try to fix it.Give them ample opportunity to fix the issues.
If on the second attempt you are unhappy, you should contact several new shops and get estimates for repairing the paint job. Contact a lawyer and have his office draft a letter to macco stating that you are unhappy with the work and have several estimates from other reputable shops that you prefer do the work at this time. Give Macco two options, refund the amount it will take to get the new shop to fix it or take a 3rd crack at getting it right. My guess is that in the face of legal action and the cost of dealing with that, that the Foreman will put his best guys on the job and probably get it right, or at least to your satisfaction. If not you may have to sue for a partial refund.
In all honestly, you may be stuck with what you got, but I would fight for what you wanted and paid good money for.

Wow, there are a couple guys local to me that are going to paint my car for $1200 or so... and their work is incredible. They're hot-rod builders/fabricators, and really take pride in their work.

I cant believe how much its costs for a paint job in the U.S..for a cheap job over here its $6000. a decent bare metal is $10,000. lucky bastards.Hope you sort out your paint job dilemma, nothing worse than having issues with paint as everytime you look at your car you seem to stare at the problem areas and it just plain gives you the shits(pardon my french)
theres PLENTY of people here who have used a "spray shop" such as maaco... i think even borhor used maaco. and the fact that you actually opted for the GOOD package would just piss me off even more...
and about the weatherstripping, i believe it, its not painted for a reason!
work things out first, but make it VERY clear the first time, dont beat around the bush, it'll get you no where. just flat out say i want it fixed how it was or im going to sue you for ruining my car.

The whole 'I'll have my insurance adjuster look at it' kinda makes me think that they'll try to weasel out of whatever they can. Plus, when I hit them with a $2300 estimate for the mouldings/weatherstripping, I don't think he'll be very cooperative. On the other hand, I DID ask him NOT to paint that shit. :3d_frown: This sucks.

Do you have a contract or anything in writing stating that you asked for the parts NOT to be painted?

But next time be sure the guy you talk to seems like he takes pride in what he's doing. Thats what sold me on my first paint job from them when i had my integra. The guy selling me the paintjob was like the paintjob will come out great, but it will not be showroom like and etc. he carefully wrote down everything i told him what not to paint and even went ahead and masked the whole car and removed everything before sending the car in. The guy even took 15 min to carefully inspect my car and point out spots where i should sand down a little for them since he said admitted they were cheap when it came to prep. Now i've heard horror stories where when you go in the guy doesn't really pay attention he just asks what color and thats it and ends up screwing it all up.
BTW do you have any other pictures? from the pics you posted i can't really say its that bad.
