Replaced the water pump, bled the system like any other car, parked on a hill, heat full blast, let it warm up, cap off, waited for the thermostat to open, all was fine added coolant, let it cycle a few more times and only had to add coolant once, My overflow was at the "Full" mark. Drove it over the weekend.. noticed I could hear air passing through the system, It was cold last night and I started the car.. low coolant light is on, pop the hood, overflow was low, it was dark so i just added some coolant until the light turned off. Today all I can hear is air flowing through the system.. not any worse than it was on the weekend though. The head gasket is fine, no traces/symptoms of a blown head gasket at all, that said I cant do a compression/leak down because I have school + work during the day and its my daily driver, the 7MGE intake makes it kind of hard to do in my spare time and if I screw something up id have to miss work/school until I fix it.

Now, I have the VSV bypassed by re-routing the vacuum hose to keep it open constantly because the other part of it stopped working, would that make it hard to bleed the system?

One thing I noticed is the car seems to run pretty cold, I had to wait a long time for the thermostat to open and when it did it was opening and closing alot, I held the rpm at about 2500 while I was bleeding the system.

Whats the best way to bleed the air out of the system?

Now for the timing belt, I figured while I had the front of the motor apart id pull the timing belt cover, what I found is this: Toyota 13568 - 42011 Powergrip 159Y25 093. Anyway of telling if thats the original one? as in never been changed? I really did not have the time to pull it apart and change it, it looked good and the tension was fine but at 240 000km's im hoping its not the factory installed one.

if your having trouble, you could install one of those flush kits in the hose that goes from the back of the head to the heater valve. thats what i did and i can bleed the system super fast now!

:nono:

running rich this morning, s it stalled at first then I re-started it and it was idling like crap, went away in about 15 seconds.. weird, never had any problem like that before with the car.

im not losing any coolant, put new hoses and clamps on the overflow system yesterday and it seemed to help, I havnt bled the system yet so im still hearing air bubbles but im going to try tonite.. rad cap is fine. Might pull the thermostat out and check it, im thinking I need a higher temp one.

Im hearing the coolant slosh around on start up and at idle, sounds like a waterfall behind the dash. I dont think its a head gasket at this point, it doesn't lose any coolant and its not having any other symptoms besides that, thinking it was just the reservoir hoses being loose/old letting air into the system when the engine cools off.

Get a 190 stat (OEM or Stant SuperStat)...cut the jiggle valve off before you install it. That will help rid the system of air. I would also test the new stat in a pot of boiling water to see when it opens ;)
