I want to do a coolant system flush, then I'm switching to Xerex g-05. Where's the best place to put a "t" to flush the whole coolant system out? I searched but missed it.
I did find jdub's advice in another thread...so the Prestone would be the wtg?

Did you use Prestone Heavy Duty Cleaner? It's a two part powdered product that includes a neutralizer. If not get some oxalic acid from a chemical supply or ebay, it's the same chemical used in the Prestone. Neutralize with sodium carbonate (soda ash). If this doesn't clean it out, nothing will. Make sure you completely flush it out of the system.

first just drain the whole thing, the radiator and the engine block, make sure the heater is on high, and remove the thermostat. Then close up the block drain but leave the radiator drain partially open, then run the hose into the radiator opening until it fills up and start the car. Just keep filling as it drains out the bottom of the radiator, the engine running will circulate all the water/coolant through and out, then drain everything again and fill it up

The oxalic acid will definitely do the trick - it's really impressive to watch it work! I think the container I got was ~$10, the sodium carbonate was less than that; and you'll have enough of both to do every car you'll ever own for your entire life... plus all your buddy's. LOL

Just make sure you pull the block drain AND the radiator drain. I used a dummy thermostat to allow it to circulate freely for the acid/neutralizer as well.

Be careful with that stuff...wear rubber gloves handling it and don't get it on ya ;)

I just took the Tstat housing off and flushed from there with the lower radiator hose disconnected. Flushed the radiator separately and hooked the hoses back up...left the Tstat out for now, but put the cover back on. Mix the oxalic acid in a gallon of water and fill the radiator, top off with water. Run it for about an hour. Flush again by draining and fill with water...run for about 15 min. Drain and fill again with the neutralizer...top off with water and run for about 15 min. Drain and fill with distilled water...run again and drain. Fill with the 50/50 G-05/distilled water and put the Tstat back in with a new gasket. If the jiggle valve is there, remove it...I would test the stat for correct opening temp in a pot of boiling water while it is out. Enjoy a very clean coolant system.

You going to put a filter in the coolant loop?

Edit: I moved this thread...since it's not 7M-GTE specific, the general section is a better place for it.

I hadn't thought about a filter, jdub, but did see Jj's pic of his. Seems like a good plan. Where is the best place to put it? thanks for the tip.

Pretty safe bet to just follow jj's lead on that one.

I don't think the location of it matters as much as the parts used. I plan to put mine over next to the charcoal canister just because thats where I have room(no ABS).
