Coolant stained cylinders?

Well i have purchased a short block that was recently rebuilt, and towards the top of a few of the cylinders there is some staining that appears to be from coolant dripping over when the head was removed ( a guess as to what it actually is from). My question is, it this ok or does the whole thing need to be torn down and de-glazed/re-ringed? When i try to feel it, i cannot feel it, it is smooth just like the cylinder wall. I can get pictures in a few days if necessary, but maybe its a common occurrence.

Coolant stain? Highly flammable, non streaking brake clean, plus clean shop towel.

Ya sorry i forgot to mention you cannot wipe it off. I will try some of what you are talking about and also take some pictures in a couple days when i can get access to it. It looks a little bit like this, (the white part, not the rust) and there is more of it. It looks a little like what the cylinders might look like after hot tanking.

i wouldnt trust it. i would get it bored out (if there is enough material left) and/or honed just to be sure everything is within specs

I was curious as to if the rings may scrape it away.

oh, no, it does not appear to be anything popping off the surface, its very smooth and if you were only feeling inside the cylinder you wouldn't be able to tell anything was there, its only visible.

Im looking into buying a flex hone for my 7mgte. It will be using NPR piston rings, but i have searched and searched and cannot figure out what grit flex hone i need, im tied between 180 and 240. Please help!

id very very lightly rub with scotch bright if your really worried about it. looks like nothing to worrie about though.

Fresh rebuild. That has to be a joke. I wouldn't trust that engine at all in it's present state.

This motor is going to be "rebuilt". It was just professionally rebuilt less than 10k miles ago. I already took a look at a few main and rod bearings and they look almost perfect, and they are stock select fit Toyotas, so the bottom end is ready to go, its just the cylinders i need to recondition.
