If you take a look into the 7m block you will see the water jacket is uniform around each cylinder (though not BETWEEN cylinders), the only difference is the ports for the coolant flow, doing virtually the same thing that the 1jz/2jz does only its a part of the block instead of the gasket.

then its the same and I will shut up.

IJ - I never knew that any engine/block had coolant going between the bores in the block and always thought it was block material between the bores. Read up on it though and it appears most engines do have coolant between the cylinders and a siamese block like ours is more of an outlier, very interesting.

Just done to make a shorter overall engine Dave, 400CI SBC's did it to squeeze the bigger bores into the same length but suffered a lot of cooling issues. (side benefit is a much stronger block torsionally)

Chev had to add a LOT of up and overs to keep cylinder temps sort of even.

Yes it is. What you are seeing at the top is just a thin peice of metal connecting the cylinder to the outer block walls. Cut an inch off the top of a 7M block, and it will look just like that aluminum block.

It's been a long time since I've had a 7M down to that point, but I didn't think they did... strange.

If I remember correctly, that is not the case on the 2JZ, but way to go, now you have me doubting that too... thanks a LOT! Haha.

The webs go to the bottom of the water jackets Jeff.

What do you mean? I have a 7m block right here and the water jacket surrounds each cylinder except for between cylinders, small opening at the top is only at the top, and directly beneath it is water jacket. And like Jeff said if you cut an inch off the top, you will see even water jacket on both sides of the block.
