ok, I have a 1989 supra n/a with a head gasket that didn't seat correctly(previous owner). I've only had this car for about 3 weeks now and occasionally after driving it and getting it up to temp. when I put it into park and turn off the engine, coolant starts flowing out of the reservoir tank. it also seems like it's boiling in the reservoir tank. now could this be caused by the head gasket, or am I looking at another problem? the car does over heat occasionally, but I'm positive that the over heating is directly caused by the head gasket.

headgasket, thermostat, clogged lines and some other possibilities. however, knowing that the head gasket didn't seat im leaning more towards bhg than any other problems. what does the coolant/oil look like?
coolant still green not milky no discoloration. just changed the oil and it looked fine, actually looked almost new.
coolant not cloudy at all? how do you know the headgasket didnt seat? you can try replacing the cooling hoses and the thermostat...but if you know the headgasket is bad you kinda want to fix that...
Mine did the same thing all the time. It turned out to be a clogged radiator, I bought a new one and the problem was fixed. and I live in Phoenix so It's hot as hell here :cry: and it does not get stupid hot anymore.
well, the weird thing is that when it happens, the engine isn't overheated it's at normal running temp. I know the gasket is a big problem, and I'll be fixing it soon, I just wanted to know if this is a problem associated with it or if I need to fix something else while I'm in there.
well like ozz said, it could be your radiator. i think the first thing i would do is the head gasket and hoses and thermostat...i was actually having a similar problem and will be pulling my motor in a week or two to fix all my problems. which include head gasket, hoses, some other gaskets, thermostat, water pump, timing belt etc. a motor rebuild actually. and you may not need to do all the but, something to consider i guess. also, you can get a cooling system pressure tested from most auto parts stores as a rental to determine if you system is leaking and letting air in which can also cause overflow. good luck and hopefully this helps
Get the cooling system fluished 2 or 3 times. May solve the problem if not....your rad could be doneskis. Just trying to think outside the box.
I had the same thing when I had BHG, it was like exhaust gas was getting into the cooling system. The coolant looked fine, oil looked fine and didn't over heat.
I would try a new radiator cap as its cheap and who knows how old it is now. Then later look at switching out the green coolant with toyota red or whatever other acceptable(cheaper) replacement, as recommended by the smart people on this forum.

Your gauge might not be working, if the coolant is boiling, it is HOT, and your gauge is obviously not showing it

if you have the tools do a compresstion test on it with the rad cap open if you see water shoot out your rad cap almost gerrinteed BHG thats what happend to mine anyway

Second, that means exhaust gasses are getting into your coolant, or your system needs to be burped, which could explain you over heating also.
Compression test, and the exhaust gas tester.
New oil as in the PO just changed it? Are you loosing coolant?
ok, so I was going to replace the head gasket this weekend, but last night as I was driving home I noticed the smell of gas. I popped the hood with the car running and gas was spilling out from somewhere on the intake side of the cylinder head. I'm not talking about a small leak, it was gushing. after letting the car sit for about 45 sec. I already had a puddle of gas under the car. It was dark, so I couldn't see exactly where the gas was coming from. Also, it was a bit hesitant to start, although it did start after I gave it some gas. do you guys have any idea where this huge leak is coming from?
