Coolant leaks out of the overflow

Whenever I shut off the engine a little bit of coolant starts to leak out of the reservoir. At first the coolant level was slightly above the fill line so that's what we thought the problem was but it's not anymore and it still leaks. What could the problem be? If anyone needs pics I'll post em.

Either there is an invisible hole or there is a visibile hole (or crack). This precludes the idea that the hose and cap are positioned correctly.

Coolant is leaking out of the overflow, or is coolant coming out the top, from being overfilled (i am not saying you overfilled it, but it overflows after a drive, right?)?

If its the second one, replace the rad cap, and inspect the TWO sealing surfaces on the rad where the cap seals, for imperfections (they get pitted over time). If it still happens and your not yet overheating...coughBHGcough

It comes out of the top from being overfilled. When it first started leaking it leaked a lot more than it does now, probably because too much coolant was added. Maybe there is still too much coolant though. Either way I'll still take a look at the rad cap.

expansion alone is not going to take the level of the overflow from the full line to the point of overflowing whether or not your cap is holding pressure so i would say you have other problems. Get a block tester kit from napa and test for combustion gasses in the cooling system.

Mine would only boil over when I parked the car. It wouldn't over heat but the bhg would pressurize the coolant system. So If isn't the radiator cap then I would say bhg.

Today I replaced the whole entire reservoir and it doesn't leak anymore... strange.

Seems the hole is invisible. Your total posts don't add up, just so you know.

How don't they add up? I thought I explained everything relatively clearly...

Ok the damn thing is pissing coolant again! I took it to a radiator shop to get a head gasket leak check. When he first took off the radiator cap the coolant was bubbling and he said that's not good. He then used some sort of machine to see if the HG was leaking and he said it wasn't. However, he did notice that the coolant level in the resevoir was like right up to the fill line and he said that might be the reason why it is leaking. Is this true?

Your coolant line is about the half way point on the resevoir. The hot line anyway.

It is supposed to be. If it is half way and leaks, then you have a hole. See why your post doesn't add up yet?

but it's not anymore and it still leaks

It comes out of the top from being overfilled.
