Nope, gotta pull the dash to get to those pipes too...

The RHD and LHD cars use the same heater core, but different extension pipes (from looking in the EPC). You can see the core, o-rings, extension pipes and clips in the pic.

EDIT: damn IJ beat me to it on both cars having the pipes. Also, even if that valve is closed, the system is still pressurized, so it WILL leak no matter what.

Ok. New info.

I don't know if this changes anything; but, I just figured out that the coolant is dripping in through a vent on the passenger side that is aiming down to the floor. It's just to the right of the center console.

Is this still the heater core or something else?

Thanks for the link poodles!

"Denial" isn't just a river in Egypt ;)

It's the heater core.

Doh! :icon_bigg

Ok. It is confirmed.

So is this a weekend job or do I need to call my boss and tell him that I'm sick?:sarcasm: :biglaugh:

Ok. In thru the nose...out thru the mouth...hold for 4 seconds...ok...now I'm good... :)

I don't see the core there. Is it already out in that pic?

I have the temperature control set to 65 currently. Does that mean that there is NO coolant passing through the heater core?

The valve is designed such that there is some flow through the core even with the valve closed.

Changing the core isn't all that hard, just a bit time consuming. Follow the TSRM for removing the dash pad and pressure test the coolant system before putting it back in. Verify climate control servo calibration while you're in there. Again, see the service manual.

Pressure testing the system is not something I'd thought of yet. Thanks for that!

Man, I just hadn't anticipated it being such a large job. I hate BHG's!!!! :D

A couple more things.

This is a 91. Do I have to take any special precautions because of the airbag? (I don't want my face to get blown off)

Also, the airbag light has been on since I've owned the car. Is this something I can fix while I'm in there?

Yep, special precaution.....

Make sure you get it on video if it happens :D

Is the precaution stated somewhere or do I just need to keep my eyes closed when it goes off? :biglaugh:

^ Right. Iirc you're also supposed to wait something like 5 minutes after disconnecting the battery before working on any of it's components and here's hoping disconnecting the battery is the first thing you're going to do on this job...

Yes, my first step will be disconnecting the battery. What other precautions should I be taking?
