Wow its been while since I've been on here! Hopefully some of the kind folks can help.
My 2 car garage has a column in the middle which I would love to get rid of! Its a cinder-block building about 22'x25' with a shallow pitch roof constructed of 2x6 joists with 1x6 underneath sheet metal. The beam that runs the width of the garage (22') is two 2x8's nailed together and set in cut-outs in the block wall.
What would be a safe and cheap (in that order) way to be able to get rid of this column?
I would like to do this myself, with a friend or 2 helping. I don't have much construction experience but have done manual labor most of my life and am mechanically inclined.
Thanks for any help!
