Well early today my computer (Laptop running windows XP) started to act up on me. I really don't know why, and I thought somebody here might be a able to help.

It's a Presario 2200, has never had problems before, has LOTS of C:/ Memory left. The thing is I'll only have one program open, and my audio seems to lag and cut out along with video. It's like every .5 seconds it lags real quick and goes back to normal. Here is a chart I got that might help explain.

I can hear the lag (Sounds like a clicking noise) Through my speakers when the blue bar goes up.

Any help?

Some programs like Microsoft word run multiple threads, each taking some of the punch out of a processor's overall processing power... especially if you're multitasking

I was laughing because it's NICEEEEE and quite quick =D

And I only have one tab open on foxfire, and also, I never touched it while it was doing it's thing. And the temperature of the computer is cold.

Hijack over. You may go back to the technical stuff.

Haha wow Jay, what a brain you have in that skull. And yeah, I tried everything to get it to run properly, and still nothing. :nono:

EDIT: I also went to computer setting and switched it from visual to performance (Hence the old school windows look) and still nothing.

Would Norton Anti-Virus cause this?

Possibly... ESPECIALLY if it's doing active scanning as you search t3h intertubes and your hardware isn't all that great... or if it's doing a background virus scan of your harddrive

worse case it could be some kind of virus/worm....I had this happen to my computer before, it gradually lag more until it freezes solid. If it were my computer, I'd run spybot/ad-aware/some kind of virus scanner.

What program are you using to play audio and video? That would help before you deleting everything.
If its Itunes your using then, its not your PC, its actually Itunes itself. Its a horrible port from platforms.

The lag is on everything with audio. Such as window media player, youtube, streetfire and it does the same for firefox and internet explorer. So I don't know what it could be

Have you uninstalled and updated your audio drivers, even if they are integrated, you should try and update your drivers.
If its integrated update MB drivers.
If its not update audio.

Spybot FTL BTW, use Ad-Aware.

DL this also, take a Screenshot of what processes you have running.

What in the hell? Spybot S&D is Ad-Aware, HiJackThis, and Asquared all rolled into one!

Spybot + Avast Antivirus (get rid of Norton, man) will keep you clear of damn near everything out there.

BTW, you can have MULTIPLE threads running, with *zero* programs running. Three finger salute the computer, and see how many processes are going.

I have 36 running right now. I've seen computers with 80+ going at once, though, just sitting at the desktop.

norton sucks...had it before. installs way too much that the average user won't use. takes up too much memory. i have used kaspersky for awhile now and i've known of it to catch a virus or two that norton over looked. lately i am hearing AVG is a pretty good one and free too. as stated above bring up task manager and see how many back round processes are running. u should see the total number of back round processes in the lower left corner of the window for task manager. u might have a bunch of stuff starting up w/windows that u are unaware of.

so far the only answer that makes sense based on the problem.

update your audio drivers.
