allright so i bought my 88 NA a few months ago runs awesome love the car but pretty much nothing electronic works. ive tried searching, checked all the grounds and fuses, cleaned all the connections but still almost nothing works
heres a list of what was wrong when i got it
-taillights didnt work (rewired them but it only need the posotive wire redone)
-brakes lights didnt work (randomly started working after 3 days)
-power windows didnt work (ended up rewiring these too a new switch)
-windshield sprayer didnt work just started working a few days ago
-power seats dont work
-dome lights dont work (but the lights on the fold down mirrors work)
-guage lights didnt work at all, then after a week they started working when brake pedal was pressed, now they work since i rewired tail lights
-A/c doesnt work but heater and blower work great (not sure how to manually engage clutch to fill system) i deffidently need this fixed lol
-cruise control doesnt work
-horn doesnt work
so basically the car drove and stopped but didnt do anything else
Honestly im at a complete loss. i just ordered a new tail lamp failure box thing and im gonna go through all the relays again but any input or tips would be awesome

Nothing a meter and the TEWD won't quickly fix. As I've said before there's no other class of problem the car can suffer where the solutions are so clearly spelled out. Curious though, why would you buy a car with such problems in the first place?

everything you said that doesn't work is run off the 7.5 and guage fuse
either you popped the fuse or have a short somewhere
I had this problem about a month ago

as a mechanic, when i run into an electrical issue and more than 1 or 2 items are written up. id say 99% of my problems are ground related.

when you have multiple circuits having issues like that, the only common is the "common"=ground.

not saying that you can go out clean a ground and viola...i dont know, im not there...but its something you havnt tried and no one else advised you on, so its top of my diagnosis.

but, keep in mind its still very possible you could have a freak coincidence that you just got a bunch of shitty parts go out at the same time, ive seen it happen. but like what jj says, a meter and a diagnostic flow chart are going to be your best friends when diagnosing anything electrical.

goodluck and welcome to mk3 ownership

One nice thing about this car is the redundant ground points for all circuits except the ECU. Even then improvements can be made. I chained all the points together then brought them to the fender connection. Also chained the ECU/injector grounds/igniter ground to the same place. Other than carrying starter return current this makes the chassis redundant and reduces voltage drop on the grounded side.

well i thought it was a ground too but at least with the tail lights they only needed positive power which means the ground is good (i think) so i was thinking maybe its the positive wire to the fuseboard or something?
