Cold start noises

Hey all I have a 89 Cressida with a 7MGE that I recently converted to 5speed with a w58. I've put about a 1000kms on the car since the conversion.

Now on a cold start when I press the clutch pedal down and hold it and the tranny is in neutral and I start the car I get a sound that almost sounds like the valve train is running dry with no oil for about 2seconds.

But if I start the car without pressing on the clutch pedal (holding neutral safety switch with finger) and the tranny is in neutral it starts up fine and no noises.

My first thought was maybe the flywheel bolts are backing out. But I don't see why they would I bought brand new toyota bolts put red locktite on them and torque them to specifications. And I don't see why it would only do this cold.

Does pressing down on the clutch when starting the engine put some kind of load on the engine?

if anything pushing in the clutch is going to take a load off the engine. are you sure that the noise is coming from the engine and that you dont have a throw out bearing noise? or....was that trans gone through before you installed it, or was it a straight junk yard trans? makes no sense that swapping a trans would cause an engine noise.

sounds to me like you have a bearing noise somewhere in the trans, if you are lucky its just a throw out bearing, otherwise you are gonna have to split the case. Of course thats only if im right about my guess, im only going off a description after all.

Clutch kit is new so has a new release bearing.

Which adjustments are you talking about AJ'S88NA?

The clutch pedal is well adjusted if that's what you're talking about. The car didn't make this noise right after the 5speed swap. It's just started making this noise 1000kms after the 5speed swap.

Wouldn't hurt to check it, may have worn a little.

My pedal adjustments might differ a bit from that because this is a cressida and I had to kind of modify the supra clutch pedal to fit in there.

But basically I have the correct amount of freeplay, pedal height is going to be different from supra, but the pedal stroke covers 95% of the clutch master cylinder stroke. Once the pedal hits the floor there is about another 3-4mm the master can be pushed in. I have the rod on the master adjusted all the way out so I can get as much stroke as I can. If the rod was a little longer I would be able to get 100% stroke.
