No coilovers. I would do a set of Bilstein shocks with Eibach springs and call it a day. Coil overs, only if you need to have valving done and even then, the Bilstein's are leaps and bounds serviceable above all aftermarket coilovers.

Remember a coilover is a racepart which means religious maintanance, regardless of what is marketed ;)

I went with JIC FLT-FAS series, they are great on the back roads and I was able to lower my car as much as I needed. They have adjustable dampening and camber plates. They overall offer a great ride, very stiff when they need to be, but not super bumpy when you hit the smallest bump.

i know that coilovers need maintance.. but since these are high performance will they need more attention more often?

I don't see an external reseviour. So they are not "high perf", they are just run of the mill coil overs with adjustments that are again, not needed if the shock was designed for the car from the get go.

Here are some more thoughts to ponder.

Do you know what

Rebound
Dampening
Compression
pre-load
ride height
spring rate

mean and how one change affects the rest?

Yes we are talking that many "things" to keep track off.

Contact Wiisass on this forum as he is a Bilstein guy.

I have had more debates on this forum over this exact subject and my arguement is always the same:

The average guy does not have the resources or the knowledge needed in order to get coilovers adjusted properly.
As a result they (coilovers) end up being a down-grade. And that's before you mess with re-valving or spring rates.
I've driven a lot of cars with coilovers and very few were even close to being right.

But I will disagree with figgie on one point, I like the koni sport yellows better than the bilstein's & I'd rather have a straight wound spring than a progressive.:icon_bigg

so what ur saying is that i should stay away from coilovers such as the teins? so what is the true difference between coilovers such as the teins compared to the bilstein' or the koni sport yellows

Try to revalve those Koni's and get back to me ;)

Simple really.

Wiisass setup. The bilstien shocks are valved for the weight of the MKIII supra specifically which takes into consideration the natural harmonic frequency of the car. If you feel they are too mushy (which if valved right they should not be) then you can get them tuned CORRECTLY to the feel you are looking for.

Here, you want a brain aneurizm on suspension?

Notice all the math that goes into it. This is just the tip of the iceberg that people insist that does not exist ;) It gets worse math wise!

All the "foreign" coilovers save for Ohlin and Penske usually only allow adjustment of the dampening. They do not touch rebound.

but i still want to beable to adjust my height and lowering and still have a good ride when i go out on the track or driving on the streets. that why i was moving towards teins ss

I was in the same situation as you....I want a stiff/lower ride....couldn't decide which of the 3 coilovers to choose.

I dropped the Tein SS since there were no pillow mounts.

I havent heard to much about Stance....

I eventually choose Megans for their higher spring rates and good reviews.

They are on the way now.....

Why would a linear spring rate be advantagous over a progressive spring rate on the MkIII?

My MkIII has eibach springs [I think] and tokiko blue shocks... I don't think I would upgrade to coilovers unless they were custom valved for my weight distrubution.

how much can they be lowered? do u do more street driving than street? id like to see some pics up when they get there and on your car?

So lowering springs suck. Rates are all over the place, the balance is usually off, most are progressive and who knows what the actual rates are for them. That doesn't mean that someone should post a link to the rates post in the suspension section, it means that no one knows what the force displacement curves look like for any of the progressive springs.

So now that we've gotten that out of the way, I dont know why people are so scared of spending money on their suspensions. A supra with a well setup suspension is so good. It makes the car not feel like a giant floating piece of crap. I really wish everyone could drive/ride in a supra with a good suspension on it and then you'll realize what you're missing.

As for asian coilovers, hasn't this all been discussed before? In general, asian dampers suck, poor damping curves, wrong damping ratios, adjustability that doesn't adjust, they're just pretty crappy. Also spring rates on a lot of these setups are kind of all over the place. Some of them are alright, some of them seem way off.

But they're available, and despite the downsides of those coilovers, the cars will handle better than with lowering springs and crap like GR2's or any other OE replacement damper other than a Bilstein or Koni.

But there are tons of options for this car. I make and sell mounting that can be used to mount any damper with 1/2" eyes. So pretty much any motorsports damper can used on the supra.

The formula is simple, good damper, good springs, awesome car. A good damper can be valved for anything you want. The only thing you need to decide is what you want the car to do, how you want it to sit and how not cheap you want to be. I see people putting tons of money into the engine bay and running around on lowering springs and sawblades and it breaks my heart. I die a little inside everytime I see something polished in the engine bay and 20 year old dampers.
