I'd say TEIN SS can be found for around 1000. 16 way damper adjustable I think. I've had experience with TEIN for about 3 years and had no complaints at all. And Tein also has EDFC that can be added to the SS.

You shouldnt spend your entire budget on just the coilovers. Failing to replace worn bushings and joints, proper corner balancing and a quality alignment will cancel out any benefit coilovers may have to offer, and potentially even make the car handle worse. That said, I'm personally a fan of TEIN due to their reputation for superior quality management and customer service. You should invest in a version with pillow ball upper mounts, as you should be replacing the upper mounts either with new factory components or upgraded components. Save a little more then do it the right way.

If you want the best coilovers for the money, buy Stance.. IIRC, they're $1200 and have halfway decent dampers/valving for a mass produced coilover.

Megans aren't too great, nor were KSports up until a year ago. However, I have heard that after revamping their model line, KSport has improved significantly. Still, I recommend Stance or perhaps another system that's custom valved.

TEIN are expensive for the end result they produce.. are they acceptable? yes, absolutely. Are they superior to Megan and KSport, IMO yes. But I wouldn't pay the prices for the performance.

Then there's the strictly Japanese coilovers such as Zeal, Silk Road, etc. The issue with many of these (depends what car they're for) is that they're valved for track use and pretty harsh spring-rate wise as well, at least for road use. The quality though, it would absolutely astound you.

(-I do not have any of these on my current car, yet I have previous experience with all of them and more. My Supra has Kei Office that will be getting 36way custom valved Konis.)

Can't we make a thread with this info and sticky it or something? I swear someone asks this question once a week. Not counting the hundreds of times this has been asked in the suspension section.

You don't want coilovers anyway, you want coilunders. Less unsprung weight. J/K.

I have custom linear rate springs with Koni yellows (set on 3/4 stiff front and rear) on my car (with a full set of energy bushings and stock size Kumho Ecsta MX tires) and it works great. The car handles rough corners like it's on rails. It really takes a huge bump to upset the car. Ride is fine... not as bad as anything I've ever driven in that had coilovers. The lifetime warranty on the dampers is nice too.
