A code 51 will set if you touched the gas, had the A/C switched to "on" while in diagnostic mode, or the TPS is bad or needs adjustment (most likely).

Jetjock has a great writeup on how to diagnose a code 51.

Ok. I followed that thread and found out some part of my wiring is bad. I get a code 51 with a jumper in the bottom 2 pins on the wiring harness. Any suggestions??

51 is real time (not set in memory) and won't light the MIL unless the diag block is jumpered. Sounds like yours is TPS wiring related.

Leave the pins shorted (make sure they're the right ones) and measure for continuity at the ECU. If the circuit is indeed open short each side to ground to find out which one is bad...

OK. I have been scanning with the engine off. Should I start the engine then jump the TPS connector and see if I still have a code 51?? I am jumping between the bottom 2 pins as if it was plugged into the TPS. To find the wires that I need to check out at the ECU just look at the TSRM??

If you'd like to go ahead. That'll prove the 51 is TPS or TPS wiring related. After that you can focus on those areas. And yes, everything you need to know is in the TSRM and TEWD.

Be careful about which pins you're jumping because the pix in the TSRM for the GE and GTE can be confusing...

OK. Ill check that out. Another question. My car used to be an auto and is now a 5 speed. It starts and drives fine so it thinks its in neutral correct?? Or do I need to do some more digging on that?? I bought the car with the swap so I have no idea what has been done to the wiring.

Does the cruise control work? If it does the wiring has probably been modified to make the system think it's in gear but again, if the 51 disappears with the engine running the NSW circuit is unrelated to your problem..

Cruise does not work. The cables aren't even hooked up. The cruise light on the dash lights up though when you try to use it. Tomorow I'll get the rear tires off the ground and try and use cruise and see if the motor pulls on the cruise cable. The original problem is a wandering idle from 900 rpms to 1300 or so rpms. Just goes back and forth. When I first start it it will idle at 800 all day long til I touch the gas pedal. Then the idle will hunt till I shut it off.

You keep making this more complicated than it is. Forget the cruise control. Your idle symptoms along with the 51 imply a TPS or TPS wiring problem. Again, that can be verified by running the engine in diag mode and seeing if the 51 remains...
