ok so i just rewired my knock sensor to finally clear my error codes and get rid of the rest of the smoke from burning rich.. about 3 days later i checked my codes again to make sure the ks wires didnt disconnect from when i reinstalled my glove and i discovered the 51.. so i moved my tps around a little and the smoke came back and its even shooting fuel out now

btw i also went to tighten my throttle cable and i accidentally disconnected a vacuum hose from this thing behind the charcoal canister and it made a loud hiss as if it were relieving pressure and i quickly plugged it back in.. maybe that is the problem? maybe the tps is the problem? maybe it could be something else? what really sucks is i have been working to get rid of the smoke since i got the car and when it finally clears it comes back from the stupid tps... so frustrating :icon_evil

ok i started with my intake manifold.. the "mechanic" who did the manifold for me plugged all my vacuums in wrong, broke a few connectors and filled them up with sealant

i cleaned my injectors

i redid all my vacuums.. they all work and are in the right place

i rewired my knock sensor which cleared code 52 and got rid of the smoke.. well for awhile

i tightened up my cai and the connector went in wrong due to sealant over the maf connector which pulled up a code. fixed that. still no more smoke

i drove to my girlfriends house and my car started to idle like complete crap so i checked the codes again and thats when i got a 51.

i noticed that the connector was also filled with sealant so i cleared it out and i accidently pulled a little vacuum (i think) out from behind the charcoal canister, im not sure what it is but i made a sound as if it were relieving pressure. after that i plugged in the connector and vacuum and started it up and adjusted the tps a little and thats when the smoke came back.

the 51 is gone, it only comes back when i rev the engine a little. i dont care about the 51 that much i just care about getting the damn car to pass smog (in california), getting rid of that embarrassing smoke, and fixing my screwed gas mileage.

also.. when i start the car it doesn't smoke, when i rev it for the first couple times it smokes a little but when the car is a little warmer is when it blows big clouds like you see at a barbecue

As Shaeff pointed out you have much bigger problems than a bad TPS will cause. Based on your posts you really need to take it to a competent mechanic. Or any non Test Only smog check station will be able to fix it...

and from the sounds of it, that mechanic didnt use gasket stuff, he use dielectric grease if hes putting it IN the connector, which is fine... but thats only if its a clear/whiteish substance.

are all of your PVC lines hooked up like OEM?

i dont lose coolant.. the bhg light is not on. but im not sure because there is alot of power shorts in my dash like my a/c controller... i dont think i looked at my pcv system.. i am also 100% positive he used sealant because i bought the sealant for him to use on the i/m gasket and i was watching him as he filled the broken connectors with silver gasket sealant and he told me he does this all the time and dont worry about the sealant it wont interfere with anything. when i have the chance i will get the pics but i've been pretty busy this past week and for the next 2 weeks so i need to find time to get a camera

btw.. thank you so much for helping me with this its been so stressful i couldnt take it anymore without help

ok so i got almost all of the smoke taken care of.

i replaced all of my vacuums for the hose technique blue vacuums (it looks great! will post pics soon)

i cleaned my pcv (it was disgusting) but i still need to replace the little rubber hoses they dont seem to be doing there job very well

but i still have a little more smoke to go.. i think this is from when i fixed my valve cover gasket from an oil leak.. i might not have gotten all of the oil out of the spark plug holes

i can also feel a little misfiring usually in first and when shifting through gears

well thanks for the help. if anyone has any other suggestions on how to get rid of the rest of the smoke please let me know i am all ears :icon_bigg:icon_bigg:icon_bigg

So it was black smoke comming out of your exausts.

Secondly you stated you had spilled oil down your spark plug wells and this could be the

reason why theres still abit of smoke left. where is the smoke comming from, the engine

bay or the exaust?

How did you go with you TPS tuning?. You maybe experiencing rich mixtures.

i havent gotten to the tps because i dont have an ohmmeter... the smoke comes from the exhaust.. i've gotten rid of all the smoke before for about a week and then i messed withthe tps and it all came back so thats what i figured it was but other people said the tps wouldnt cause smoke

You havn't confirmed what colour smoke is comming out your exaust.

So i'm still assuming its black. Then you can try another knock sensor, my friends SR20

ran pretty rich because his knock sensor was dead, but i havn't had this on a 7m in my

experience. You could do a search on knock sensor you should find something.

then set your timing to confirmed its timed right. Also check for vacume leaks.

Ohm meters are like $10.00 man. A mechanic is heaps. Go buy yourself a ohm meter from a reputable electronics shop.

sorry i thought i posted that it was black smoke... what would i use to check for vacuum leaks? also im pretty sure there wouldnt be a vacuum leak because if you read back a little i stated that i changed all of my vacuums with new ones from hose techniques. i know an ohmmeter is cheap but i guess it never really crosses my mind to go and get one.. btw i also stated that i rewired my knock sensor and i checked and it is still giving signal.. it had an engine code but i rewired it which cleared it

so did you fix the issue? my car is doing the same... I have code 51 and my engine revs at like 1500rpm up to 2k sometimes and when I drive it it kind of drives as if my clutch is slipping but i can feel it engage, however it does vibrate when i'm accelerating and can only get to about 30mph.. tomorrow when it's not late i will check all vacuum hoses and the cps

hey i am terribly sorry it took so long to reply, i have been dealing with alot right now I'M GOING TO BE A DADDY :).. well my car still isnt really fixed, whenever i first start it up in the morning, it will idle kind of normally, and say i go in for a second, when i come back about 2 minutes later its idling horribly, as if its fighting to stay alive. i never got a chance to change out the tps though so this could be a problem
