Honestly I just went with a stock kit and it has held up just fine.(FYI: I am N/A for the time being.) What are your plans with the car?

My plans are going GTE sometime later this year. I live very close to Jarco and Im about to take advantage of that haha.

While she is N/A I want her to be in top shape, so Im working out all the problems. This seems to be one of them. So well take care of it, the clutch has lived its life good and now its time to upgrade.

Are you going to stay w/ the w58 when you go GTE or are you going to swap to the R154?

Got an R154 transmission in Houston I can have sent here when Im ready. GTE Clutch in the w58 and swap over right? I think Im just gonna get a normal clutch for now and get a new one for more power for the R154

exedy is usually pretty good...

dunno about the site though...

First off I'd check your clutch pedal freeplay as mine was tight enough to pre-load the clutch throwout and partially disengage the clutch...hence slip.

Mine was glazed pretty bad but holds fine now, just takes awhile to wear back in, but mine wasn't fully broken in...

sorry to hijack, but the slipping clutch thing reminded me of an old worktruck we had at a delivery company. It was a diesel, but the "ignition" (not sure what else to call it) was fubar so when you'd turn the key off it would keep running. The bosses were too cheap to fix it, so we had to stick it in 5th gear, plant our foot on the brake and pop the clutch to stall the engine.

Well over time (under punkass delivery boys' abuse) the clutch gradually wore out... So one day we go to stall the engine, but the clutch slips so bad it just keeps right on idling. not really related, I just felt like sharing lol

anyway, here are some signs your clutch is starting to slip:

*You shift gears and accidentally leave the rpm a little too high for the next gear. When you do this, the car doesn't jerk forward like normal -- instead the engine slowly comes down to the correct rpm

*your rpm/mph aren't always consistent. Say you're going 70mph on flat ground and your rpm is 3000. Then you start to go up a grade while maintaining 70mph, but you notice the rpm is now 3200...

when your clutch is nearly gone:

* your rpm rockets from 4000 to 6000 without really moving the car
* you notice a smell similar to overheated brakes

when its gone:

* you think you're doing a burnout, but notice your tires aren't moving:

start out in first gear, immediately short shift to 2nd, and fully hit the gas.

if your RPM's go up pretty quick w/o your speed going up proportionally... yep its toast.

Ok so, I was just driving around to get lunch and decided Id hit it pretty hard, I actually did what you said right there b4 reading this, 1st easy, slammed to second and took off, car revved but took about a second longer to actually grab bc I felt the car push me back significantly longer after I slammed the gas, I didnt see the RPMs weird out on me but I felt it. SLIGHTLY

phoenix, get a new disk from autozone for 18$ when you bring your old one back.

damn thats cheap haha, well I had one of the mechanics here at work drive her for me, with me in it. I pointed out what I was feeling and he said there is definately torque being lost early on in the power band. he said the clutch is grabbing fine, and then I explained to him my whole valve shim issue (knowing they are the wrong sizes lol) and he said thats most likely the problem.

So sometime this week I hope to reshim all my valves. See On intake and exhaust side they are on the right side, but in diff spots from the original locations (I didnt know they were diff sizes :( I was dumb back then LOL) So HOPEFULLY taking care of that will fix it.

Thanks for the info, Im gonna do the valve reshimming first and see if that fixes it. I also need to diagnose my super high idle. Since i changed my plugs and wires saturday shes been idling at 1250, gotta fix that.
