Clutch reinstalll

OK Well Im about to put the tranny on and Im putting the clutch back in and well, I put the disc onto the flywheel, then put the pressure plate on, then notice the damn disc kinda slumps down, how the fuck do I make it stay put?

you need an alignment tool...if you got a new clutch it would come with one. Its a plastic thing that looks like the output shaft of the trans that holds it in placed while you tighten up the pressure plate.

this has been discussed before and you don't need one, it slides onto the transmission input shaft perfectely aligned.

If its a w58, which it probably is since he's got an NA, you have to bolt the pressure plate up first because there are no access panels in the bellhousing.

like rupmtis said, he needs to get a clutch alignment tool.

ghetto riggin time, I cant afford any more tools, any other ideas, suggestions?


Oh and I dont see any match marks on either pressure plate or flywheel.

you could use an extension with an appropriately sized socket on the end to hold it there till you get a couple bolts tight.. worked for us (emp and I)

Yeah I just did that, put an 8mm in the tiny hole, whatever to 3/8 extension to a 1/2 extension, held.
