i don't know if it's just me, but I'm having trouble removing the clutch master, any tips? I took one off a parts car, and that involved a headache, banged up knuckles, removing the seat, and two ujoints just to get the driverside nut out. Of course, that was before I found SM...

I'm not an experienced mechanic, but I have a fairly good grasp of most things, and love wrenching, but this thing is kicking my butt!

I can remove the cotter pin and remove the rod from the clutch, and the passenger side nut, however, the drivers side nut is giving me problems. any tips? is it easier to remove the pedal itself? How would I do that?

I just read the threada by schaeff, and I could only find it with google, not the search engine here for some reason. So, a really long extension and u joint is needed?

I just swapped mine out, Taking it out isn't as bad as putting it back in. I used a wobble extension with a 12mm deep socket. Wasn't to bad to get it out. You just have to fish the extension properly.

Putting it back on was a pain. Really hard to get that nut started. Once its started its pretty easy. Same extension and socket to put it back on.

Oddly enough, I don't think my method has been mentioned yet.

Pull the lower dash cover off, and the left side switch panel.

Feed in a deep socket on several extensions through the space where the switch panel used to be. Use your left arm from the pedal area to feed in the socket. Once you get it on there, it's super easy.

When the nut comes off, just leave the whole ratchet / extension / socket in there for when you put it all back in.

PS: I put a rare earth magnet on my socket so that the nut doesn't fall out.

I can pull the whole master in under 15 minutes, including grabbing the appropriate tools from the toolbox this way. Putting it back in takes about twice as long, because getting those nuts started is never easy.
