Clutch hose replacment(R154), the cheap/quick way

veedubin

Official SM Decals
I went to bleed my clutch this morning and shortly after begining the procedure, I was given a shower of brake fluid. Turns out the 20 something year old hose ruptured. After calling parts stores all over, and then the dealer. The soonest I could have one was mid to end of next week for aound $40 (dealer item only) I looked into the ebay and driftmotion ones. They are nice, but I needed one today. I have a very good relationship with the Advance Auto parts here in ephrata, and they were more than happy to help me frankenstien another project. We looked for about 15 minutes or so for sommething that would replace the ruptured line on my car. Turns out we found something almost identical. Pics below. It is a rear brake hose for an escort/tracer and some smaller mazda's. Same threads and flare type. Minor differences where it mounts into the hose brackets, but easily remidied. So to all that blow a clutch line and need one ASAP here is your answer.
Part Numbers as follows:
Bendix: 77953
Raybestos: BH38840
Wagner:F123293
Tru Torque: H38840

This is for my 87 Turbo with R154 trans, not sure if it would work with the
W58, but I hope this helps someone.

Shiny one is new and dirty one is old (Duh :icon_bigg )

good info, thanks.
same thing happened to me, when i went to autozone to get a replacement, i asked about a soft brake line that would fit... "Brake lines are hard" was the response i got.
needless to say, i got mine from the dealer.

I appreciate the post! I've thought for a long time that we need a thread dedicated to compatible parts from other vehicles... I did try to get a thread going on it as well, but it failed.

Brake lines are hard. Brake hoses are soft.

In any case, some times jobber parts places don't hire the best and brightest.
