Hey all,

Lately I've been having some issues. Don't know a whole lot, so looking for your diagnosis. When I'm accelerating, more often in 3rd 4th and 5th, the RPM's will jump up a lot faster than they should, without the car accelerating as fast as it should. It's always when im boosting. And happens pretty much every time I floor it in 5th. I'll be going 60 and floor it. And hit 80 at like 5k rpms. What's going on?

sounds like clutch slippage to me... could be caused by a few different things... rear main leak or trans front seal leaking (getting the clutch coated in oil) but most likely its from general wear...

I'd be easy on it for the time being until you can get a new clutch put in it... the reason its slipping in higher gears and only under boost is because of the added load... so for the time being... no hard driving... and I wouldnt do much highway driving... It will eventually just stop engaging all together and you'll be sitting on the side of the road.

how many miles are on the clutch and what type is it? stock?

165k on a stock clutch is actually pretty good. most usually wear out around 100k. the clutch disc material is very close to the brake pad material.

new clutch kit from toyota is around 230ish for pressure plate, disc, throw out bearing, pilot bearing. use champion or elmhurst toyota as they have a special price for supra owners.

also machine the flywheel when you do that and that is only around 20-40 bux.

Toyota World is the best place for stock replacement.

Pressure plate 76.73
disk 63.84
release bearing 25.90
pilot bearing 5.79

total 172.26 Plus mention Supraforums discount and you get like %10 off or something like that

Good luck
