it grabs great but when i drive it past like 3 hours or so straight it starts to get a little soft, i am wondering if the fluid i used is going bad, i used the dot3 like it requires any guess it only starts acting up once in a while which would meen something other then clutch going maybe master cylinder since once in a while it gets low, how hard are hey to replace

If you are going to replace the master cylinder might as well do the slave while you are at it.......... i replaced mine about a month ago and it was not bad at all, the hardest part is the fact that some of those bolts are tough to get to on the master, so depending on how flexible you are you should not have a problem....... :biglaugh: seriously though, make sure you bleed the lines before you start, take off the plastic panel from under the steering wheel, i think there are about screws holding it down. From there you will see the master cylinder and you can pretty much unbolt it. I dont remember the socket size, but i think you will figure that out. not the most thurough directions, i know, i am still learning myself............

That one bolt on the master is a pain in the ass to get to. I've laid on the grond for an hour playing with that thing, but once you find it and get a wrench on it, it's cake. Lighting is an issue, it's dark under there. It's a 10mm I think, but may be 12...........I just described 90% of your car.

Slave is easy. That being said, buying the parts is not easy on the wallet.

sorry dont have pictures but your master will be right by the speed control actuator (cruise control) its in that small reservoir in the upper right most section of the car if you are looking at the front. it shoul say DOT 3 on the top of the cap. your slave is up underneath the car and i think it is the only thing up under there with a bleeder valve on it (except tranny) its kind of elongated in shape and it has one line going to it and is held in place by two bolts.

to bleed you have to have two people........ one of you has to open the slave valve and the other has to pump the clutch probably with your hand at first since the clutch will probably stick or get very loose. As you bleed you dont forget to add the dot 3 fluid.

I once drove my 85 MKII with no clutch for a couple of months, cause I couldn't afford to fix it. It can be done, but it's no fun at all. You have to have the car off to get in first gear, and start it while it takes off. Then raise rpms pretty good to make each shift. Not proud of that poverty story, but it was that or drive Mom's Honda for a while.hehehehehe

You'll regret not doing it yourself, because the 300-400 something dollars you will pay for labor could have gone to performance. It will be that expensive if you get it done at Toyota anyways.

^^^DITTO! The parts aren't that expensive, the clutch system is pretty cut and dry. Bleeding it is going to be the easy part, getting the master cylinder out and back in is the fun part. But basically you're looking at pulling the master and slave, putting the new ones in, bleeding the clutch line, and then adjusting the pedal. Doing it yourself is going to save a couple hundred bucks. If you decide to do it yourself let us know, and we'll guide you through.
