Clicking Noise

Hey guy´s,

i think it´s the time to take the chance to tell you about my clicking problem.

So i have a clicking sound who´s til last year but i couldn´t find anything and i need your experiences.

I thought it was one of the rod bearings, but i changed them so they are new and the sound is even there.
The sound currently appears if i throttle the engine and then after leaving the throttle pedal there is a clicking when the engine rotates with 2000 rpm to 1800 rpm then the sound is currently there....

if the engine is cold its not all the time ....

i´m thinking about the axial crank bearings or the oil pump gear ....with an special tool i could hear the sound is in the direction of the second zylindre or from the oil pump ....
the tootbelt and the rolls are 2 years old and i when was driving with stock Turbo pressure

The valve clearance was checked.....

but do you have an idea???? i´m very happy about every new idea......

Does it go away once the engine is warm? Could be piston slap.

Hi,

no it is like in the video ....
if the engine is cold there is no sound ....

engine warm its there ..... but not all the time...

Honestly it sounds a lot like rod knock/piston slap but a video camera is a far cry from the human ear sorry man, and only when warm "sometimes" is a real fucker. You need a sethescope(screwdriver or something pressed to your ear in a pinch works well, blunt end against your ear of course haha) to help pin point the location.

Did you check your bearing clearances and inspect everything when you changed your bearing? It's not a exhaust leak is it?( Doesn't sound like it but..)

i have and have always had this noise and has never gotten worse but dont listen to me lol im just stating that for my own good lol. but its identical noise.

Hmm, did you do all the clearences by tsrm? or just by what you thought was ok?

Also does the clicking noise ever change? Or is it the exact same intervals between clicks everytime?

The rod bearings are new and the old were not bad...... mmhhh i´dont know if its a piston slap but i checked some videos from youtube and the piston slap sounds like in the vids are different from mine ....always there and realy loud......

I have a stetoscope and i heard several parts at the engine..... its not easy to identify ......so that´s the reason why i´m asking here....... the sounds are like my discription and it is when its warm ......

yes i checked the rod bearing clearance and it was perfekt ......... exhaust leak --> my exhaust bolts are new and the sealing is ok .......

please i´m not a beginner .......

could it be possible that the crank bearings make this sound or the oildriveshaft ???? ..... i never ever had a problem with toyota engines with the crank bearings .... but now i´m not surprized if these are fucked up


The clearance is like tsrm.....

and the intevals are constant like in the video 4-5 clicks......

have you pulled any plugs to see if it goes away? is it louder on the intake or exhaust side?

yes i pulled every one and it was always there ..... at warm conditions....

its very difficult to say..... so i think its louder at the exhaust side but if i here with the stetoscope an the tootbelt cover i think it is louder at the oilpump direction.....

i think i will remove the cover completely and check all rotating parts...

It sounds alot to me like its valvetrain. Mine sounded the same untill I checked all the clearances. After doing that Its alot quieter.

what happens when you give it rpm? does the noise sound faster? or is it a consistent speed? a valvetrain noise will increase with speed. Have you tried disconnecting injectors? may have an injector that is getting noisey. I developed a tick/click noise after installing bigger injectors, mine is purely injectors

My idea was so see an axial movement at the crank-pulley....
At this session i found a movement from the ignition angle... while the clicking noise appears.....in the same frequency...

so my new ideas are ... the damper inside the pulley could be damaged.... there is a little visible draft

is there someone who could give me an answer if this could be the clicking noise.....

so i have no ideas mor for that....

now i posted earlier in this thread about my car making the same noise. to mee it sounds in the valve train. but my damper has came loose multiple times untill this last time i was able to impact it. so damage to it could be possibe but to me the sound comes from the valvetrain. same sound tho.
