Clear coating taillights

I've found one thread with after pics and what he used but I can't find anything on prepping or the procedure to do it right. My tails are a little dull and I'd like to freshen them up. Anybody who's done this, can you give a little advice?

Yup, I have a meguiars plastic polish that works fantastic. I'll go out to the garage tomorrow and see what its called, I believe its "plastic-x" or something, I don't know.

Meguiars used to have a blue plastic polish out that was much better. I don't know if it's been discontinued or not but we can't seem to find it up here anymore and it's been replaced by that PlastX version. If you can find the old stuff it's much better IMO. (not to say Plastx isn't pretty good too)

CarQuest still carries the Meguire's two part cleaner/polish plastic cleaning system (blue bottle + white bottle)

The best way I've found by trial and error is to first wet sand them. This is the only way you'll get all the scratches out and get down to some fresh looking plastic.

Start with 400 then up to 600 to 800 to 1000 to 1500 and then 2000. After that use the plastic-x.

Major important...wet sand and polish in one direction only.

They'll look brand new.

Ick, I would be afraid to touch any clear plastic piece with 400, I would definitely start with 800 since the plastic is so soft.

I use a buffing wheel with buffing compound. Turn down the RPM's on the buffer because you can melt the plastic with high rpm's, unlike metal. Not a orbital wax thing. I dont even know why they make them. When all done apply a coat of wax and you will need sun glasses to look at them. Or just have a detailer do it the next time you bring your supra in for a spring cleaning, and shampoo.
