Are you joking!!!!??? 60lbs!!?? The AC unit prolly weights a few pounds and the allum heat exchanger and can another pound or 2. Saying it drops 60 lbs is like saying stickers add hp!! When the AC is off the pully is not drawing power and spinning the free rotating pully maybe pick up less then 1/2 a horse if anything. The only thing I could come close to agreeing with is the engine space statement! 60lbs is quite a strech, where did u fabricate that number from? :nono:

id say hes a lot closer then you honestly...

the compressor weighs over 10lbs EASY....

the condensor another 5-10lbs

lines are probably a couple of lbs

and then you have the heater core/blower et al behind the dash which is EASILY 20+lbs...

it adds up

The compressor is 17.5 lbs, and I forget the condensor. The whole system is worth taking. Every little bit counts in weight reduction.

If you take the heater core out will you still be able to use any of the fans inside of the supra? I'm not sure how all of that is hooked up as I've never been under the dash in mine yet....

^ yes, but you'll have to fiberglass shut some holes (or whatever type of sealer you wish)

i removed my entire A/C system, but keep it bagged up tightly in my garage, should i ever want to replace it. i have no compressor, condensor, lines, or evaporator. it's all gone. the only things left related to A/C in my car are the button on the climate control, and the wiring, which is tucked away and hidden.

if you removed it all you cant use the defogger right? what do you do if the windshield fogs up? i know whenever it rains here mine fog up

you can still use the defogger, it's just not as effective without cold, moisture free air blasting away at the windshield.

I've been pondering the ISC,

Do not take out the Idle Speed Control. If you do you will get a revving idle (go from 1500 RPM down to 500 and loop). This is not something to just take out. Read the TSRM.

Okay, I took out the entire AC system on BOTH supra's this weekend, this is what I have:
The AC pump- aprox 17lbs.
AC condenser and all the lines under the hood related to AC, along with the little fan on the radiator and the bigger fan on the condensor- aprox. 17lbs.
I didn't touch the inside AC System that's under the dash, but I would gues another 10-20 lbs. You all can do the math, that would end up being pretty close to 60lbs depending on the inside portion of the AC.
Another note: the fan on the AC condensor weighs 3lbs, my supe is an '88 and the other (my cousin's) is an '87. His supe didn't have the fan on the condensor:icon_conf , but i added on another 3lbs to the entire wieght and divided by 2 to get the 17lbs because most of us would have had that fan.
On another note, I also removed the charcoal canister on both cars along with cruise control, but I didn't factor in that wieght.
