Because it's a British model, designed and built in Halewood, Essex and for 10 years won 'Britains best car' for Ford...over the span of 20 years, a million of them were sold, to the UK, mainland Ewwwrope & New Zealand....

It's an iconic example of motoring in the UK. Back in 1980 for example, almost every middle class, middle income family, had a Cortina or an Escort. Just like now those same group of people own a Ford Focus or Mondeo...

Too bad it's about the blandest car in existence. Very surprising to see a car of little worth is such pristine condition.

Is there much salt put on the roads in the UK?

Yep - they're salted AND gritted. Sometimes sand too, depends on the weather.

Granted the Mk5 wasn't particularly good looking at the time but its very clean looking and inoffensive to look at. However, the real bad boy of the Cortina lineup was the Mk3....phwooooar!

Yeah i read up on that...3.3 and the 4.1's....those would have been far, FAR sweeter than the Cologne V6 they shoehorned into them. The essex V6 was alright as it had bags of torque and looked the part. The Cologne was a bit too....industrial for my tastes, even in L-Jet EFi form...

They put extreme amounts of salt down. my supras rear arches are totally fucked through the salt. all rotted :nono:

still i supose it is needed. i remember a young woman was killed on a dual carriageway close to my house about 5 years back now. the local authority didnt send gritters out to lay salt down one winters night. black ice formed. and she span her car and hit a lamp post.

there was untold hell on about that accident

I still see rust on that car...

Does that sticker on the back mean it's a disabled person? Probably wasn't driven in horrible conditions...

I'm just messing with you. I can respect the cleanness, but there is only one real cortina to me -

That's followed closely by the the Capri -http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1987-Ford-Capri-Tickford-Turbo_W0QQitemZ120187741048QQihZ002QQcategoryZ9844QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

And RS Sierra Cosworth http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-SIERRA-R...oryZ9844QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I also wouldn't mind a droop snoot Chevette

austin princess
datsun bluebird
opel manta

we only owned the princess (x2) and the bluebird when i was growing up. the others were either cars i remember from walking to school or that family owned
