I know. This is what I am talking about. My IC pipes are done in ceramic chrome. They are shiny but when compared to proper chrome plating, there is a significant difference. I still prefer the look of the ceramic though.

Yep...big difference. Ceramic chrome looks more like a high polished aluminum, only it's a LOT easier to keep clean and shiny. It will never have the same "bling" as chrome plate though. The big advantage of the ceramic is the heat resistance, especially on exhaust parts.

I know for a fact that the TEMS covers that I wanted to sell that nobody was interested in were BETTER than the chrome plate. It took over 20 hours just for one, but eh.. At least I know my abilities, but it's not worth the time.

Well I believe if I took my time I could get it to look EXACTLY like the valve covers. Thanks for the information everyone.

Polished aluminum will never have the same sheen as chrome, sorry to break it to you. You can do an amazing polishing job and make it look fantastic, but at the end of the day you'll still be able to spot the difference easily between a polished part and a chromed part. That picture you posted up was taken by my friend Brian who has a really great chroming business. The advantage of chrome is the hardness of the surface. It's far more resistant to swirling and hazing and won't oxidize over time if you don't polish it regularly. Chrome work is something I'm more than happy to pay somebody else to do. I don't want to be around those chemicals and I certainly don't want huge tubs of those chemicals hanging around my house or shop.

That M3 is not actually chromed. It was actually shipped to and painted in Italy using an very expensive paint and process that results in a chrome look.
