Well i learned the hard way. Up here in Minnesota the temp got to -5 last night, and i guess i have to much water in my antifreeze from replaceing the water pump this last spring. My Caddy is now froze up like a ice cube:( I am just hoping i didnt crack my block, or split my radiator. Well i have it in the garage now (after moving the supra and tons of engine parts:cry: ) with blankets over the engine and the heater on hi.

Well hopefully the freeze plugs did their job. Check to see if any popped out.

LOL

When my white '83 had BHG last year and I didn't feel like pissing $7 worth of coolant away every time I started it, we just drained the block every night so there'd be no engine block freezing issue.

what?:nono: I can't believe how many people are wrong. Their main job was done when the car was built. They werent designed to pop out in a freeze.

What what??? That's how they work. They were put in at the factory and are designed to "pop out" if there is too much water than coolant. Expansion and Contraction my friend.

According to my auto teacher the plugs are their for the casting process. If the water in the block was freezing, the water/ice would be pushing out in all directions and usually the block cracks before the plugs do anything. He could be wrong tho, but i can see his point.

Are our plugs technically "freeze plugs" or "core plugs"?
