well alright guys, i'll get right to the point this time and not type an essay for yeah.

about a month ago. i ran across a post about ebay cheap pistons..

http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39635&page=2&highlight=pistons

well
i did NOT go this route for my supra, i went the same route as my brother, and also choose to have my machine shop short block it, i was done playing..

but, now my supra is going to be finished and god hopes relible, i should be ready to start my celica budget build im trimg to get a decent stock boosting 7mte into a 84 celica gt coupe fr as cheap as possible, i bought the car for 100 bucks, and have about another 100 in getting it back on the road and driving. any how.
i picked up a rod knocking 7mgte for 100 bucks, and it need's a bore..

well i guess what im saying is, im about to purchase these and check out the product first hand.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330098613765&fromMakeTrack=true

i am starting to think this stuff is Nos, new old stock.

the piston ring set says nippon piston rings (npr) and isn't nippon part of nippon denso?

well any input, or just letting me know im crazy would be great aswell, i dont think telling me not to run this will stop me .. well unless some one finds a cheaper more scary solution.. maybe a even further proven cheap part myth might need to be settled!

i just know, if these cut the cheeze, i might be stuffing 7m's into a few cars real quick.,.

wow this would work awsome for me.Well i dont need the pistons, rings or bearings but thats ok.But i would also be afraid of the timing belt or oil pump crapping out.

Nippon = Japan.
Nippon Denso = Japan electric

They are not related in any way. Give them a try. They can't be any worst then buying generic pistons from the parts store + for that price, you just can't beat it anywhere....

Cheap? Thats an understatement, that's dirt cheap.
I say go for it. I've been wanting to see a build like this;budget build with ebay performance.:icon_razz Run one of those xs power turbos into the ground and let know how it holds up. Maybe put a smaller A/R ex. housing on it though.

I was looking around for pistons, as I might need to bore on my rebuild, and saw that kit the other day. I literally said to myself "hm, I wonder if anyone on Supramania has input to these"

The Generic branding and ebay name turned me off, but you never know. I'd rather go with somethings thats been proven over and over, but alittle more pricey. Spending some more money is worth ripping it down and rebuilding again in 3,000mi. to me.

Not saying anything bad about this kit, I have NO experiance, it just seems thats the biggest downside, no-one has much experiance with it.

the pistons to me almost look like they have a coating on them... atleast top side,

well i just got a msg back from seller.

hi how are you,
yes, we do carry .50 and the price is the same.make sure make the note when you purchase.
thank you.

i just asked him about pistons there,

i sent him another message about undersized / over sized bearings. i'll probaly get the same awnser, just specify..

i also asked if their is any sort of warrenty for pistons failure.. i doubt so but would be nice to hear him give white light to the situation..

im actualy pretty stooked about this, all i need now is to source a used mhg, or similar fashion so i can put this celica motor through some hard ship and really test the abilties of ebay items..

That would be a good way to do a nice street rebuild with mild horsepower, the main thing to making it all last would be to keep control of detination. For a mid- high horsepower engine you definitely want to go with better parts and forged pistons.

My Crank shop while not bagging them outright suggested to NOT use ACL bearing in a maximum effort performance build as they tend to flake (PITA as ACL are close by)

ACL Bearings :thumbdown

Use Toyota, NDC, or Toga bearings...BTW - Clevite bearings are re-boxed NDC ;)

That looks like an NA oil pump...don't want that in a turbo car. Take a look at this:
http://www.mkiiitech.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=369

Personally, I'm going with a Toyota or Aisin oil pump...too important to trust to a no name. Same for the timing belt...Toyota or Greddy. You don't want to risk a cheap belt stretching and jump a tooth.

Well im using everything from that kit minus the pistons, head gasket, and bearings. I will be using clevite bearings, and wiesco pistons. But im thinking in investing in an oil pressure gauge just incase that cheap oil pump decides to go south on me.

If that oil pump goes out, an oil pressure gauge is not going to save you ;)
Plus, if it's an NA pump it will not provide the pressure required for a turbo motor...the gearing is different.

Ok well to verify if the oil pump is for n/a or not should i be able to hold them up side by side and tell a difference
