there is nothing wrong with 1 wire alt, many man. use them on there high end vehicles, unless you know more then the engineers that spend years building and researching there vehicles, I have no problem with mine.

I never said they won't work, just that there are inherent problems using them. Don't you wonder why Toyota didn't use one? Or that any car built in the last 25 years doesn't come with them? Don't take my word for it, do some homework. Since you're reading this you're connected to the greatest source of information civilization has ever known. It's more than a global pornogrphy network you know. As for me knowing more than the engineers, maybe not. But I'm a degreed EE and designed complex electrical systems longer than I suspect you've been alive.

I see a lot of guys making mistakes because they don't know what they don't know. Removing the EGR is a good example. The engineering in this car is more involved than many here seem to understand so it's not surprising they have problems when they mess with it. In light of that asking me if I know more than the engineers who built the car is an odd question indeed. Fwiw my car never gives me problems and runs like a watch.

Hey, I'm not here to argue with anyone either (lol, except those who've conveniently forgotten or don't know about the Downing Street Memo) but you *are* saying I'm wrong. You said there is nothing wrong with 1 wire ALTs and I'm saying there is.

What they offer in convienence they take away in regulation. The sense wire of an integrally regulated alternator has been taken from inside vehicles since the 70's for a reason. Measure across the battery with the engine running your one wire and then measure across the tail light bulbs. You want that kind of regulation from an ALT capable of putting out 160 amps in a car filled with electronics?

Aye mate's problem was a missing fuse in a properly designed charging system. Smart guy that he appears to be he did the right thing by ferreting out the root cause instead of slapping on as a band-aid something not designed for the job. Just my two cents.
