I put this in here because I have a 1jz and what not.

Here's the problem, the car died while I was driving it a couple months ago. Lights went dim and it was sputtering then just died. Well, I finally got around to getting an alternator. I put it in and it is getting the correct charge, but won't stay running. NOTE: the car was running fine and it did this out of no where. So, I used a multimeter and checked all the wiring and it seems good. But, when I jump it, it will run for a couple of mins at like 500rpm's. Then it will die again.

Is there anyone that has had this happen to them or have any advice? I really appreciate you taking the time to look. Thanks.

ummm, get a 7M.

J/K - I thought I would be the first to say that and get it out of the way.

question - Do you give it gas at all or do you just let it idle?? and then it dies??

Did the lights dim because the engine rpm dropped? Was the old alternator the problem?
Sounds like a bad ecu, a lot of time they will work until the electrolyte eats through a copper trace on the pc board. Open the ecu and look carefully under all the capacitors for discoloration on the pc board. I can fix it if you send it to me.

Aaron- I opened it up and it is clean as a whistle. I looked carefully and there was nothing.

Almost exactly like that. What was your problem and how did you fix it?

Try another ECU and see if it takes care of the problem. Also check your fuel pressure. You might want to change the capacitors even if they are not leaking now, they will leak at some point, and they don't have to be leaking to be bad.

It's not hard to see if the battery voltage doesn't rise when you start the car, and the alternator can be tested for free at an Autozone.

After checking the ECU 10K times, and replacing it 50,000 times, I took the WHOLE dash apart and found NOTHING!!!!! I was pissed. Long story short. Not sure how, the wire that feeds the ECU, which feeds the pump at low volts (5 volts I think) was cut off. What I did, before I knew that it was cut. I cut the feed from the ECU, which makes the pump run at 12v all the time. Once I found what the real issue was (wire was cut), I put the wire back in. Now is working as intended.

Already R2'd the canuter valve. Yea, I'm lost as well.

Aaron- I'll have to get ahold of one of my buddies that has a spare mine's ecu. Maybe he'll let me try that.
